Last weekend, the East Bay Regional Park District was requested by the California Office of Emergency Service (CAL OES) to assist with a search for Jason Coughran in the Desolation Wilderness National Forest, El Dorado County. EBRPD was requested to assist with drone operations by utilizing a special fixed-wing drone and software that allows for larger areas to be searched and analyzed quickly.

An EBRPD officer arrived in South Lake Tahoe and was briefed on the search alongside close to 200 additional SAR (Search and Rescue) members from agencies across the state. Due to the rural location of the search area, our officer and drone equipment were dropped off at the UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) launch point by California Highway Patrol helicopter H20 and a US Army National Guard Chinook helicopter.

After 2 full days of drone flights and data collection, the analyzed photos and flight paths were provided to the El Dorado County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team. We are honored to be a part of this search and hope Jason is located.

For additional information, please contact the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at 530-621-6600 or 530-573-3051.

In Memory. Never Forgotten.
Today we honor the sacrifice of East Bay Regional Park District Police Officer Paul F. George ( #41) and Chief Pilot Kenneth “Scotty” McGregor ( #43), who gave their lives in the line of duty on June 4, 1974, while serving and protecting our community. Their dedication, courage, and commitment to public service continue to inspire us more than five decades later.
As we remember these fallen heroes, we also honor their families, friends, and fellow officers who carry their legacy forward every day.
End of Watch: June 4, 1974
Gone, but never forgotten.

Last week, EBRPD Air Support Unit (Eagle), Officers, and Firefighters, along our Fire and Police partners, responded to the area of Black Diamond Mines Regional Personal for the report of a fire. Thanks to multiple water drops made by Eagle and our regional partners, the fire was contained at approximately 35 acres, preventing it from spreading in the dry and windy conditions.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

This Memorial Day, the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department honors the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

As we gather with family and friends and enjoy the beauty of our regional parks, we pause to remember those who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we cherish every day.

Yesterday, EBRPD Police helicopter Eagle had the honor of participating in a solemn es**rt and formation flyover for the 9/11 remembrance artifact on display at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. 🇺🇸🚁

Leading the formation coordinated by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit, Eagle flew alongside CHP and the sheriff's office helicopters in tribute to the lives lost and the heroes who answered the call on September 11th.

Following the flyover, our crew attended the dedication ceremony and stood alongside the many law enforcement and fire agencies united in remembrance, service, and respect.

We are grateful to be part of honoring this important piece of history and those whose sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Today, the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department proudly participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Northern California. Our officers had the honor of receiving the Flame of Hope from our partners at the Livermore Police Department as it continued its journey toward the Summer Games.

The Torch Run represents more than a relay — it’s a symbol of inclusion, unity, and unwavering support for Special Olympics athletes throughout our communities. We are grateful to stand alongside our fellow law enforcement partners in raising awareness and support for these incredible athletes.

Thank you to the Pleasanton Police Department for the handoff and continued partnership in this meaningful tradition. And, thanks to our partners at the Livermore Police Department, who received the torch from us!
