You may notice something different about Schodack PD this month.

Throughout September, members of the Schodack Police Department will be wearing specially designed red uniform patches and badges in recognition of Blood Cancer Awareness Month.

Our marked patrol vehicles will also display a special “Together We Fight Blood Cancer” graphic featuring the red awareness ribbon.

These changes are more than a different look for our department. They are a visible show of support for those in our community and beyond who are fighting leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood cancers — as well as the families, caregivers and medical professionals who stand beside them.

This is a cause that also carries personal meaning within our department. Like far too many families, members of our SPD family have experienced the loss of loved ones to blood cancer. That connection made this an especially important cause for us to recognize and support.

But we wanted this effort to be about more than just awareness.

The Schodack Police Benevolent Association will be offering our specially designed Blood Cancer Awareness patches to the public for $10 each (At SPD 8A-4P Mon-Fri), with the proceeds being donated to Blood Cancer United⁠. This gives members of our community an opportunity to take home one of the same patches being worn by our officers while helping support the fight against blood cancer.

The East Greenbush Central School District held its inaugural Summer Fun Day today at the Genet Elementary School. Officers Heslin and Lodin were present at the Touch-A-Truck gallery.

This was a great opportunity for residents and our members to come together and celebrate the end of summer. Families enjoyed activities and giveaways while connecting with those who serve their community. Events like this help strengthen relationships and bring everyone together. We are thankful for the chance to speak with residents about our role as police officers and answer questions about the work we do each day.

We would also like to thank EGCSD for inviting us!

ARREST – ARSON INVESTIGATION

A 14-year-old Schodack resident has been arrested following an investigation into multiple intentionally set fires.

On Thursday, July 23, 2026, Schodack Police responded to 236 and 242 Schodack Drive for reports of suspicious fires involving a residence, a boat, and a vehicle.

The City of Rensselaer Fire Investigation Team responded to assist with the investigation and determined that the fires were incendiary in nature. A Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 trained in the detection of ignitable liquids also responded and assisted investigators.

On Monday, August 10th, an anonymous tip led to the development of a 14-year-old female suspect. Later that day she was arrested and charged with the following:

CHARGES

• Arson in the Second Degree – Three (3) Counts – Class B Felony
• Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree – One (1) Count – Class D Felony
• Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree – One (1) Count – Class D Felony
• Arson in the Fifth Degree – One (1) Count – Class A Misdemeanor
• Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree – One (1) Count – Class A Misdemeanor

Following her arrest, the juvenile was brought before an accessible magistrate in the City of Rensselaer for all felony charges and was remanded to a local juvenile detention facility pending an appearance in Rensselaer County Court later today. She was referred to Rensselaer County Probation for the misdemeanor charges listed.

July 2026 Activity Report is in. Steady month for sure.

Now if you'll excuse us, we heard Myspace was going to be making a comeback, so we have to spend some time prepping our social media presence for that platform.

We shall begin pondering who our "Top 8" are going to be. Where are you going to place?

ARRESTED: James A. Jennings, age 51, of Castleton on Hudson, was arrested following an investigation relating to his status on the New York State S*x Offender Registry.

On Thursday, July 30th, 2026, Schodack Police arrested Jennings following an investigation regarding his failure to register certain internet identifiers and online accounts. Jennings had failed to notify the State S*x Offender Registry of his creation and use of a multimedia messaging/social media app (Snapchat). Such notifications are mandatory for all individuals on the New York State S*x Offender Registry.

Jennings was remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.

This investigation is ongoing.

See below for an update on the road conditions in town. Big thank you to the Town Supervisor Charles Peter for putting this update together:

Over the last 24 hours we have experienced nearly, if not more, a foot of rain.

We are still getting a full handle on the full extent of the damage but as it pertains to Town Roads, the following are what we know of.

Closed Indefinitely: Simons Road

Closed for what we assume will be at least until tomorrow and we can fully assess potential damage:
Clove Road
Sagendorf Road
South Old Post by the Schodack Valley Firehouse.

Closed due to remaining standing water:
Brookview Station
Shufelt Road.

Roads that are open but have a lane closed:
Kingman Road
Graw Road

There also remains several County and State roads that are closed and many places in Town where there is some amount of standing water on the road surface.

Please exercise extreme caution if you have to drive tonight.

There are some sandbags available at the Schodack Highway Garage if you need them.

We expect to see areas around our creeks, especially the Moordener and Muitzeskill but not limited to those, to continue to see flooding conditions for the foreseeable future.
