When you’re a Castle Rock Police Department Animal Welfare Officer in the summer, some days you need to take the bull by the horns – literally. Friday had a little bit of everything for our AWU…

🐮 A livestock call involving three bulls on the loose who decided to enjoy the open space near the Cobblestone neighborhood,
🦝 A wildlife call relocating a family of racoons in the Plum Creek area,
🐱 And to check off the trifecta, a domestic animal call where our Animal Welfare Supervisor picked up a lost cat in Memmen South

In addition to providing education and enforcement for animal issues to include excessive barking, leash laws, animal bites and animal welfare, this unit also partners with area agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for the people and animals of the Town. The Castle Rock Police Department was honored to be recognized by MADD Colorado and the Colorado Department of Transportation at this year’s MADD & CDOT Law Enforcement Champions Awards and Banquet for Outstanding Dedication to Investigating Impaired Driving Crashes.

Members of our Investigations Division, Traffic Unit, and Victim Assistance Unit — alongside our partners from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office — were recognized for their dedication and commitment following a fatal traffic crash investigation in April 2025.

Their coordinated efforts included complex crash reconstruction, compassionate victim support and meticulous trial preparation, reflecting both a relentless pursuit of justice and deep care for the victim’s family.

We are proud of their professionalism, compassion and unwavering commitment to investigating impaired driving fatality and injury crashes.

Buckle up, Castle Rock... it's Click It or Ticket time! The Castle Rock Police Department is participating in the nationwide enforcement period beginning now through Sunday, May 31. A quick reminder of the seat belt laws in our State:

🚗 Drivers and front seat passengers must wear a seat belt. This is a secondary offense.
🚙 Drivers under the age of 18 and all of their passengers must wear seat belts. This is a primary offense, meaning the driver can be pulled over solely for a seat belt violation.
🚗 Children under the age of 16 must be properly secured. This is also a primary offense.

Help us keep Castle Rock's roads safe. During this time period, there will be no warnings issued for seat belt violations.

Please do not call our dispatch center regarding traffic signal timing or congestion updates, as it is important that emergency lines remain available for urgent calls.

A man is in custody following an investigation into multiple intentionally set fires across Town.

The Castle Rock Police Department charged Caleb Bishop for the fires set between May 12-13, 2026. Bishop, 46, was taken into custody on multiple charges including arson, trespassing, tampering and theft.

“This case reflects the outstanding work and collaboration of our patrol officers, detectives and partner agencies, including Castle Rock Fire and Rescue,” said Castle Rock Police Chief Jack Cauley. “Their quick response, attention to detail and commitment to public safety were instrumental in identifying and charging a dangerous individual, helping make our community safer.”

Castle Rock Police previously arrested Bishop on Monday, May 11, for trespassing at the location of two fires. Bishop was released approximately 12 hours later on a personal recognizance bond. He was arrested for other charges May 13. At that time, CRPD named him a person of interest in the arson investigation.

“Technology and video evidence played a critical role in this case,” added Chief Cauley. “Multiple members of our department worked together to piece together and verify information from several sources, helping establish probable cause and identify the suspect.”

Bishop is currently being held at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility.

The investigation remains ongoing and no additional details are being released at this time.

Thanks to the quick actions of Castle Rock Police Department Patrol and Strategic Response Center teams – along with the support of our retail partners – more than $2,300 worth of stolen merchandise from nine different stores was recovered following a recent theft investigation.

We especially want to thank our retail partners for their collaboration. By providing valuable and timely information, our officers were able to quickly respond and successfully recover the merchandise. Strong partnerships between businesses and police play an important role in keeping our community safe.

Additionally, reporting thefts and suspicious activity helps us identify larger organized retail crime patterns and connect cases. If you witness suspicious activity, please report it. Your information can make a difference.
