On June 6, 2026, the Castalia Fire Department conducted a successful live fire training exercise that provided firefighters with valuable hands-on experience in fire suppression, search and rescue, ventilation, and incident command operations.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all departments and agencies that participated and helped make this training possible. Thank you to the Nashville Fire Department, Red Oak Fire Department, Salem Fire Department, White Level Fire Department, Coopers Fire & Rescue, Nash County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for your support, professionalism, and commitment to firefighter training and safety.

Training opportunities such as these strengthen interagency partnerships, enhance operational readiness, and ensure firefighters are prepared to serve their communities safely and effectively. The teamwork, dedication, and professionalism demonstrated throughout the day were outstanding.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this training event.

Effective Saturday, March 28 at 8 a.m., the National Weather Service has issued a ** 🚩🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩🚩** for some North Carolina counties. For counties that aren’t under a red flag, fire danger is still critical. Review weather alerts for North Carolina at weather.gov.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous fire behavior.

While open burning is permitted during a red flag, it is NOT advised. Please postpone ALL outdoor burning. If there was ever a time to show you can follow instructions the first time they are given, it’s now.
