Cassopolis, Michigan

Cassopolis, Michigan Welcome to the Official Village of Cassopolis page! Cassopolis is located in central Cass County in the southwestern corner of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.

Specifically, Cassopolis is located in the southeastern corner of LaGrange Township, although a portion of the east side of the Village extends into Penn Township as well. Jefferson Township borders the Village to the south. The Village is a traditional Midwestern small town. It has an older, urban core surrounded by traditional residential neighborhoods. The Village serves as the County Seat for

Cass County and is home to the majority of the County offices, the County Courthouse, and the County Fairgrounds. Two state highways intersect in Cassopolis: M-60 and M-62. M-60 travels to Jackson and Three-Rivers to the east and Niles to the southwest. It provides access to US-31, US-131, and I-69. M-62 connects residents to South Bend and Granger, Indiana to the south as well as Dowagiac to the north. It also provides access to US-12. The Village is situated about 35 miles northeast of South Bend and is a part of the South Bend Metropolitan Statistical Area for census purposes.

🏆 The Village of Cassopolis is incredibly honored to have received the **Legacy Award** from MSHDA (Michigan State Housing Development Authority) at the recent All Grantee Meeting — and even more humbled to share that we were the ONLY community in the State of Michigan to receive this recognition.

For a small community like Cassopolis, this award means so much. This recognition reflects the dedication, persistence, and heart our team brings to serving our residents every single day.

MSHDA recognized not only the success of these programs, but the LEGACY they are helping create in our community. Over the past several years, the Village has secured and administered more than 2 Million dollars in homeowner assistance and housing improvement funding, benefiting nearly 20% of homeowner-occupied homes within the Village through multiple programs.

These investments are about far more than home repairs — they are about protecting families, preserving neighborhoods, supporting aging residents, and ensuring people have the opportunity to remain in the homes they love. This work is a key part of our responsible growth strategy within the Village and our commitment to putting residents first.

We are proud that Cassopolis is creating a lasting legacy where homeowners are supported, neighborhoods are strengthened, and residents are given the opportunity to stay in and improve their homes.

A very special thank you goes to Tonia Williams, Alexis O’Flynn, Heather Brown, and Ky'ante Buck whose thousands of hours of hard work, compassion, and commitment made this achievement possible. Their dedication has changed lives and helped make Cassopolis a model for communities across Michigan.

This award belongs to our entire community, and we are grateful that MSHDA recognizes the impact Cassopolis is making — proving that even the smallest communities can lead in meaningful and transformational ways. ❤️🏡

Heads up! The Department of Public Works will be flushing fire hydrants next week. Fire hydrants are flushed to maintain water quality, remove sediment buildup (like iron and mineral deposits), and ensure proper pressure for firefighting. This routine maintenance "exercises" the valves to confirm they work correctly and prevents water stagnation in the pipes.

THANK YOU KY'ANTE BUCK!

Over the past 15 months, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside Ky’ante Buck as our CEDAM Fellow through a shared grant between the Village of Cassopolis and the Cass County Land Bank Authority. This partnership not only helped grow our capacity to move important projects forward, but also supported the development of emerging leaders right here in Michigan.

Ky’ante has been an integral part of so much of our work—assisting with homeowner improvement projects, contributing to the rehabilitation of the 117 Building, supporting Phase 2 of Stone Lake Beach, working on the Don Horne Housing Development and our MSHDA MOD homes, and playing a key role in the Village’s new Master Plan - just to name a few. Along the way, he’s documented our progress through thousands of photos, presented at conferences, engaged in community events, and built connections with partners across the state.

It has truly been a privilege to watch him step into new experiences, take initiative, and help lead meaningful projects. There’s no question—we learned just as much from him as he did from us.

A huge thank you to Ky’ante for all of the moments, big and small. We are so grateful for the time you spent with both the Village and the CCLBA, and we wish you all the best in your next chapter with the City of East Lansing—they are lucky to have you!
