This month, all officers and supervisors are participating in advanced 3D virtual reality training at Decision Tactical, designed to prepare officers for some of the most challenging and high-risk calls they may encounter. Through 360° immersive scenarios, our officers responded to incidents such as domestic violence calls, active shooter events, and other critical situations requiring rapid decision-making under pressure.

The training environment allows officers to apply tactics in real time, reinforcing the principles that help keep both our community and our officers safe. By exposing our officers to realistic scenarios we can evaluate responses and practice making effective decisions when seconds matter most.

We are seeing more jet skis out on the lakes as the summer season ramps up. Please take a moment to review the below safety tips and laws regarding operation.

Each person operating, riding on, or being towed behind a personal watercraft must wear an approved non-inflatable wearable personal flotation device (PFD). Inflatable PFDs are prohibited for personal watercraft use.

The operator of a personal watercraft must attach the engine cutoff switch lanyard (if equipped by the manufacturer) to his/her person, clothing or PFD.

Personal watercraft may not be operated from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise, even if navigation lights are used. Federal and state laws require the use of navigation lights when operating PWCs from sunset to a half-hour after sunset and from a half hour before sunrise to sunrise.

Maneuvering a personal watercraft by weaving through congested vessel traffic, jumping the wake of another vessel unreasonably close or when visibility around the vessel is obstructed, or swerving at the last possible moment to avoid collision is classified as reckless operation of a vessel (a first-degree misdemeanor).

A person must be at least 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft in Florida.

A person must be at least 18 years of age to rent a personal watercraft in Florida.

Towing - The jet ski must have a spotter (an observer) on board who is facing backward to watch the towed person. Alternatively, the PWC can be equipped with an FWC-approved wide-angle rearview mirror.

It is unlawful for a person to knowingly allow a person under 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft (a second-degree misdemeanor).

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 is required to either have successfully completed a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved boating education course or have passed a course equivalency or temporary certificate examination and have in their possession a boating education ID card and a photo identification card before operating a vessel with a motor of 10 HP or more in Florida. Identification cards for persons completing the course or the equivalency exam are good for a lifetime. Temporary Certificate exams are made available to the public through contractors. The temporary certificate is valid for 12 months from the issue date.

School is out this afternoon and summer is officially here!

The Casselberry Police Department wants to congratulate all of our students on wrapping up another successful school year. We hope everyone enjoys a fun, relaxing, and memorable summer break.

As schedules change and more people head outside, please remember that traffic patterns change too. Expect to see more kids walking, riding bikes, using e-bikes, scooters, and spending time outside with friends. Drivers should stay alert, especially near neighborhoods, parks, and crosswalks, including the busy crossing area near Wheel Park.

Parents, now is a great time to talk with your kids about safe riding habits:
🚲 Always wear a helmet
🛴 Follow traffic signs and rules
⚠️ Ride at safe speeds and stay aware of surroundings
🌙 Use lights or reflective gear if riding at night
👀 Look both ways before crossing streets
🚸 Use crosswalks whenever possible

A few extra seconds of caution can make a huge difference.
Let’s all do our part to keep Casselberry safe this summer. Slow down, stay alert, and watch out for one another.
