Casper Police Department Introduces New Black and White Patrol Vehicles

Casper, Wyoming (June 1, 2026) – The Casper Police Department is beginning the transition to a new black and white patrol vehicle design, marking a return to the traditional and recognizable look historically associated with policing agencies across the country.

Each year, the Casper Police Department replaces around 10% of its fleet as older vehicles age out or otherwise are removed from service due to repair needs. As part of this year’s fleet replacement process, department leadership and officers worked together to select a new long-term vehicle design focused on visibility, consistency, and overall fleet cohesion.

Over the past two decades, the department’s fleet has consisted of varying vehicle colors and designs from year to year. Those variations were largely driven by manufacturer color availability at the time vehicles were ordered and replaced throughout the years.
Beginning this week, the new black and white patrol vehicles will gradually be integrated into the department’s existing fleet. Over the next several years, as additional patrol vehicles are replaced, the department’s fleet will transition entirely to the new design.

The Casper Police Department currently utilizes a one-to-one vehicle program, meaning each sworn officer is assigned their own vehicle. This model has proven beneficial for long-term fleet management by promoting vehicle longevity, improving accountability for vehicle condition, and helping ensure maintenance needs are addressed consistently and proactively. The program also supports public safety operations by improving officer readiness and ensuring patrol vehicles remain consistently equipped and available for emergency response. With more marked vehicles regularly visible throughout Casper, the department is able to maintain a stronger and more consistent patrol presence across the community.

In addition to creating a more unified and professional appearance across the fleet, the department believes the new black and white design enhances vehicle visibility and embraces a classic policing tradition many officers are excited to bring back to Casper.

“Our officers are genuinely excited about the return to the traditional black and white patrol vehicle look,” said Chief Shane Chaney. “The design is simple and represents professionalism, visibility, and pride in our department. Over time, residents will begin seeing more of these vehicles throughout the community as our fleet continues to transition.”

Residents may begin noticing the new patrol vehicles on Casper roadways immediately as they are placed into service.

The Casper Police Department proudly utilizes local vendors for new vehicle needs. Gratitude is extended to Communication Technologies Inc., Shirts and More Inc., and Greiner Ford of Casper for their services.

The Casper Police Department encourages residents to say hello and feel free to snap a photo if they see the new vehicles out in the community.

The Casper Police Department is dedicated to the protection and safety of our community through the highest standards of professionalism in police services.

Some of the best parts of the job happen in the little moments, talking with students in the hallway, visiting classrooms, laughing together, and simply being part of the school day.

Our SROs want kids to know that police officers are here to help, support them, and cheer them on as they grow.

As the 2025-2026 school year comes to a close, the Casper Police Department would like to thank the Natrona County School District for their continued partnership in helping keep our schools safe. We hope everyone has a fun and safe summer.
