Last night we treated ourselves to a nice dinner out and dropped about $150 on steaks.

Tonight, we grilled up a couple of our own T-bones. Not because we planned a fancy supper, but because the package had a broken seal and couldn't go in the sale freezer.

Folks...

I had almost forgotten what really good beef tastes like.

And now I completely understand why you people keep cleaning out our steak inventory every time we restock it.

I don't mean to sound biased, but if I was blindfolded and had to pick between the two, I'd be asking for seconds of the Peaceful Valley steak and wondering where the other one came from.

Kevin and I looked at each other halfway through supper and basically had the same thought:

"Well... I guess the customers have been right all along."

So, good news! Later this week we'll be restocking all steak cuts, bringing back our beef wieners, and our snack sticks will finally be back in stock. (If you've been asking about snack sticks every week, your persistence is about to pay off.)

We're also switching many of our steaks to one steak per package. That way you can grab a steak for supper without committing to feeding an army.

Turns out we should probably eat our own beef more often. We spend so much time raising it, feeding it, and selling it that we forgot just how darn good it is.

Little boys don’t learn much sitting inside on a screen all day.

They learn by riding along with dad, breathing in fresh cut hay, getting dusty, sweaty, tired, and figuring out that good things come from hard work.

These are the kind of days I hope they remember forever.

Kevin gave me a whole lecture when I bought pigs before the pigpen was set up.

Meanwhile this man is over here talking about doing 1,000+ little square bales with approximately zero setup besides “we’ll figure it out.” 😂

Sir. That’s the exact definition of the pot calling the kettle black.

Farm logic is basically:
•My bad ideas = irresponsible
•His bad ideas = “it’ll be fine”

But honestly, as always, we seriously couldn’t do any of this without the people around us. From borrowing the baler, to borrowing the conveyor, to family helping watch kids while we run in 47 different directions… it takes a village some days.

We’re really dang lucky to have the people we do around us.

Due to Little Moo being sick, I will not be attending the farmers market today ☹️

Send well wishes for a swift recovery and let’s hope she doesn’t get hit as hard as her brother did. Poor kiddos have really been taking turns around here lately.

If you were hoping to grab a bundle, I can still get a few put together and stocked in the freezer. Just PLEASE send me a message before stopping by the farm store so I can make sure I’m around and have everything ready for you!

Memorial Day weekend = everybody suddenly remembering they need steaks 😅🇺🇸

I’ll be at the Sparta Farmers Market tomorrow from 8-1 with the coolers loaded up for the weekend cookouts.

🥩 Steak Box #1 – $100
• 4 Sirloins
• 2 T-Bones
• 2 lbs Ground Beef

(4 available)

🥩 Steak Box #2 – $115
• 4 Sirloins
• 2 Ribeyes
• 2 lbs Ground Beef

(2 available)

We’ll also have ground beef, steaks, kabob meat and all the other favorites stocked up.

Memorial Day weekend always hits a little different around here. Busy markets, kids running wild, grills going nonstop, and trying to soak up a little family time between chores.

Very thankful for the people who gave us the freedom to live this life in the first place 🇺🇸

You know it was a good farm day when the weather’s suspiciously perfect and you accidentally season yourself while filling grain pails because you forgot the wind exists.

Spent the day power washing the skid steer, finishing up my flower boxes, and trying to soak up every second of this unreal weather before Wisconsin remembers who she is again. By noon I looked less “put together farm wife” and more “lightly breaded in corn dust.”

Also apparently the sun has had enough of my attitude because my arms are absolutely FRIED and starting to blister already. Farmer tan season came in swinging this year. 😩

We also dispatched two animals today, which means restock is coming

Be on the lookout for:
• Ground beef
• Premium steaks
• Beef wieners
• Snack sticks (fingers crossed if everything goes right)

Anyways. Beautiful day, productive day, slightly crispy Kathleen… but we’ll call it a win.

Sparta Farmers Market is treating us REAL nice today.

Sunshine, cool breeze, premium steaks in the freezer and for once… I am here without children asking for snacks every 14 seconds. Honestly this feels like a vacation. 😂

Today’s featured bundle is our “Weekend Restock Bundle” for $99 and it’s basically the answer to “what are we making for supper this week?”

We also brought ribeyes, t-bones, filets, New York strips, kabob meat and one lonely porterhouse that somebody absolutely needs to take home before Kevin convinces himself it’s for him.

We’re here until 1 at the Sparta Farmers Market. Come see me while I’m still relaxed and acting civilized.

We’ve had a lot of new people here lately, so here’s the DL on how we raise our cattle at Peaceful Valley Cattle Co. in Cashton, WI.

We raise calves born on our farm, plus some we buy from a few close family friends we trust. We don’t go buy random cattle from all over the place.

When they’re little, they get hay, corn silage, minerals, protein, and fresh water all the time so they can grow healthy and strong. As they get bigger, they start eating a mixed feed ration called a TMR. Basically it’s like a balanced supper for cows made up of hay, corn silage, corn, protein, and minerals all mixed together.

They also have access to pasture whenever they want, but honestly most of them would rather hang out by the feed bunk because they’re a little spoiled.

All the feed they eat is raised by us close to home, within about 10 miles of our farm.

We don’t rush our cattle to grow fast. We let them grow naturally at their own pace, which helps make good quality beef.

We dispatch cattle every month from January through October. We sell quarter, half, and whole beef along with individual cuts from our farm store and at the Sparta Farmers Market on Saturdays.

You can also eat our beef at Patty Smashers & Shakes because they use our ground beef for their burgers.

At the end of the day, we’re just a family trying to raise good food the right way while surviving farm life and four kids at the same time.

My 6 year old and 1 year old spent the afternoon driving me around while picking up what seems like endless random trash.

By “driving me around,” I mean one was giving completely unnecessary directions while the other was aggressively pointing directions like her Grandpa Rob 😂

Farm kids are a different breed. They’ll ride around all day covered in dust, eating snacks they found in the cupholder from three days ago, completely convinced they’re the reason chores got done.

And honestly… they probably are. They make the long days a whole lot better.
