Regarding the stoplight:

🚦The stoplight is run by the state, not by the City or anyone else.
🚦The stoplight is currently operated by loops. Some of those loops have stopped working in the past year.
🚦Recently, one of the loops that stopped working made the usual operation of the light unsafe. This is why the light is blinking red.
🚦We have been informed that starting Tuesday of next week, the stoplight will begin getting updated to a camera system instead of a loop system. We are just as hopeful as all of you that this is a solution to the troubles we have had with the stoplight in the past year.

Thanks to those that have successfully signed up for our txtmygov system. A mass txt message will be sent on the afternoon of May 21st asking for permission to allow us to send alerts. Even if you have already signed up, you will be asked again. Don't worry you are already in the system if you have joined by txt already. This mass txt will go out to a wide area including areas outside of Carthage. Let your friends and neighbors know this is coming. Anyone that wants to be included can be.

In the coming days most everyone whose cell phone shows 62321 as their address will get a txt message asking for permission to receive txt alerts from the City of Carthage. This is a legit request and will only be used for occasional emergency/important announcements. If you don't have the ability to receive txt messages and still want to receive alerts by voice you will need to contact city hall. The old list was with a company we are no longer using. You can sign up for txt alerts by following the instructions attached

The City of Carthage will be transitioning from our current phone notification system to this new txt based system in the coming weeks. There will still be a voice option for those without cell phones or who don't use txt messaging.
