Fatal Crash Closes I-40 Overnight:

At 11:30pm Smith County Rescue, Gordonsville Fire, Smith EMS & Law Enforcement responded to the 258 Eastbound on I-40 to a 2 vehicle accident with entrapment.

Upon arrival it was determined the drivers of both vehicles were deceased at the scene. No other passengers were in either vehicle.

One vehicle was traveling the wrong way, Westbound in the Eastbound lane, when it struck the other vehicle head on.

Smith County Rescue in a joint effort with Gordonsville Fire Department worked together to extricate both drivers from their vehicles.

At 2:12 am THP was still on the scene investigating the accident & I-40 was still closed with Eastbound traffic being diverted off at the 258 Gordonsville exit.

Thank you to all our volunteers on both Smith Co. Rescue & Gordonsville Fire for answering this call and doing so quickly in the middle of the night.

The teamwork between both departments was outstanding.

Our good friends over at New Middleton Fire got called out to set up an LZ for Cumberland County EMS this afternoon. Cumberland was enroute to Nashville when they diverted to an LZ awaiting a transfer to air medical.

The patient was a juvenile and Smith Co Sheriff's Department arrived to make sure mom got on to Nashville as soon as possible.

It takes a village to make it all work.

Opps this is not how to park:

At 6:52 p.m. Sunday, the Smith County Rescue Squad, along with Smith EMS and the New Middleton Fire Department, responded to Hunter Lane in the Brush Creek area for a skid steer accident.

Upon arrival, responders determined that the operator had not sustained serious injuries. Rescue personnel found that the skid steer was self stabilized and used chainsaws to clear small trees and brush that were preventing access to the machine's door. Once the obstruction was removed, the operator was able to be safely extricated from the skid steer.

After being removed, the patient was evaluated by Smith EMS personnel at the scene and declined transport to the hospital.

We would like to thank all responding agencies and personnel for their assistance with this incident.

At approximately 12:38 pm today SMITH COUNTY RESCUE SQUAD, Gordonsville Fire, Smith Co EMS & Law enforcement responded to River Bend Ln in Gordonsville for a reported motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival it was noted that a vehicle left the roadway on Trousdale Ferry Pike, traveling several 100 yards before stopping in a yard.

The accident appeared secondary to a medical event. Law Enforcement arrived (Smith SO & Gordonsville PD) immediately removing the occupant & beginning CPR. EMS, Rescue & Fire arrived and immediately began providing additional care. The driver was successfully resuscitated after diligent care inside the EMS unit by EMS, Rescue & Gordonsville Fire personnel.
