It has been brought to our attention that someone claiming to be with the Smith County Sheriff's Office is calling individuals claiming hey missed a federal grand jury subpoena. This is a scam as we do not call about missed federal grand jury subpoenas. Please do not fall victim to these scams as they will try to get money sent to them. Again THIS IS A SCAM!!!

This week, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office proudly recognizes National Corrections Week and honors the dedicated men and women who serve in corrections.

Our correctional officers and jail staff work tirelessly each day to maintain safety, security, and professionalism within our facility. Their commitment goes far beyond supervision — they provide structure, support, compassion, and opportunities for positive change to those in our care.

Corrections is a challenging profession that requires strength, patience, integrity, and dedication. We are grateful for the hard work and sacrifice of our entire jail staff and appreciate the important role they play in serving Smith County.

Chief Eugene Roberts, Assistant District Attorney Samantha Williams, Lt. Dusty Hailey, Lt. Junior Fields, Lt. Randy Glover, and Sgt. Jimmy Lankford enjoyed spending time with the county's 6th,7th, and 8th grade students and teachers at today's career day. The students truly enjoyed the "drunk goggles" which simulate the differing levels of intoxication. This was more than 500 students we interacted with today... shew we are tired. Lots of great questions and participation.

It is with very heavy hearts that we report the passing of K-9 UDO after a brief extreme illness. K-9 UDO was often seen at our schools, visiting our students throughout the county and he was instrumental in hundreds of cases in Smith County. He has been utilized by surrounding law enforcement agencies at different times in his career. He will be missed by our entire office, but especially his handler, Lt. Junior Fields and family. Please keep them in your prayers.
