In 1962 President Kennedy designated May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which in falls as National Police Week.

This Friday at 10:00 AM Central Baptist Church is hosting our memorial ceremony in their sanctuary.

The Peace Officer Memorial program will be held on Friday, May 15th at 10:00 AM at Central Baptist Church, followed by the posting of the wreath at the courthouse memorial.

April 12–18 marked National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, but our appreciation for these first responders doesn’t end when the week does—our gratitude lasts all year long.

We will never forget the sacrifices they make day in and day out to answer the call and keep our officers and community safe.

Tomorrow a statewide drill will take place to test emergency alert systems. The drill will take place between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM and may involve several text and automated call alerts.

Storm Update 1/25/2026: The Carthage Civic Center is open for a warming station! If you are without power and need a place to stay warm the Carthage Civic Center is open! If you need assistance with transportation to the Civic Center please contact the Panola County Sheriff’s Office 903-693-0333 or the Carthage Fire Department 903-693-5282. Power crews are working as fast as they can to access damage and make repairs!
