We love our neighbors and supporters! For over 30 years you've helped us continue our mission to help reintroduce people as productive members of society.
A year ago, our family of 8 slept in a tent in our backyard for the Night In A Box challenge in support of Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter.
At the time, the goal was to raise awareness and funds, but more importantly to start conversations with our kids about homelessness and what some of our neighbors in this community experience.
Even then, we knew we weren’t truly experiencing what our unhoused neighbors go through.
We had a tent.
We had warm blankets and clothes.
We had food in the house.
We had access to a heater.
Our kids could go inside if they got cold or uncomfortable.
We were in a safe backyard, on flat ground, behind a privacy fence.
But what that night did do was open the door for some really important conversations in our family about gratitude, stability, hard seasons in life, and how quickly circumstances can change for anyone.
Over the past year, through our work and relationships in this community, we’ve seen even more clearly just how important places like Good Neighbor are. They don’t just provide shelter they provide stability, dignity, resources, and a path forward for people who are trying to rebuild their lives.
I’m really grateful our kids got to be part of that experience a year ago. It was a small thing for us, but it represented something much bigger, the idea that homelessness isn’t someone else’s problem, it’s a community issue, and it takes all of us doing what we can.
Good Neighbor truly is a Godsend to so many in our community.
