September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and we’re making it extra special! Sign up for a new library card at Carteret Public Library this month for a chance to win a prize inspired by the American Library Association theme: “A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes!”

Beginning in September, Jones Martial Arts will offer weekly self-defense classes designed to be both practical and enjoyable.

Five classes will be held every Wednesday at 5:00 PM, starting September 2. All participants ages 5 and up are welcome.

The final celebration for Summer Reading was a fantastic success! The Scream Truck stopped by the back of the library, giving everyone who participated from July through August a chance to cool off and enjoy a treat. We’re grateful to all our library patrons for making this year’s Summer Reading Program truly memorable.

We’re already looking forward to next year - planning is underway, and the upcoming theme is “Mysteries Await at Your Library.” Here’s to another wonderful summer!

Last week’s Build-A-Dino event sparked incredible creativity! Participants received an assortment of dinosaur “bits,” clay, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and more, with complete freedom to design their own unique dinosaurs. The final creations exceeded our expectations. Some even turned the plate itself into part of their imaginative dinosaurs.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Mike Rose Library Magician for an unforgettable magic and comedy show! Nearly a week later, we’re all still amazed and puzzling over how some of his tricks were done. The performance was the perfect mix of mystery, laughter, and interactive fun. With a record-breaking 86 attendees, it was our highest turnout of the summer - the Kids Room was packed to the brim!

This week at the Carteret Public Library, creativity was in full swing! Tuesday’s craft started as a Stone Mosaics project, but soon evolved into a celebration of natural art. Young artists used rustic wooden slices, leaves, twigs, and stones to create truly unique masterpieces. Then, on Thursday, imagination sparkled again as we transformed simple water bottles into mesmerizing sensory bottles, each filled with glitter, beads, and even shells, with a bit of food coloring to make every bottle one-of-a-kind. No two bottles were the same!

If you missed it, Science Heroes recently visited the library and put on an engaging science show for all ages. Patrons had the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiments, making it a fun experience for everyone, from children to grandparents. The highlight had to be the Toilet Tornado, which delighted the crowd as it flew over some lucky participants.
