Afternoon Update: August 2, 2024
OPPD and our mutual aid partners continue to make progress in storm impacted areas. As of this morning, 76% of outages (over 130,000 customers) have been restored, and as we continue into our third full day of power restoration, we will work to restore power to the remaining 57,000 customer owners. Most of these outages are in Douglas County, with approximately 10,000 without power in Sarpy County, and hundreds of outages remaining in Saunders, Cass, Washington, and Pottawattamie Counties.
We are working towards estimated restoration time frames for homes and businesses, but due the complexity of repairs, specific timelines are very difficult to provide. As we continue recovery efforts and timelines become more clear, those with the most complex repair issues and longest recovery times will be contacted. Our priority is to restore power to the most customers first, and while progress may appear slow in the more complex areas, we are working as hard as we can, safely, to restore electric service.
We thank the continued support of the 101 mutual aid crews and 113 tree crews that are here to help restore power to our community. With our mutual aid and OPPD teams combined, we’ve had over 1,000 front line workers in our hard-hit areas.
We know it is incredibly difficult to be without power for this long. OPPD and our mutual aid partners feel for your constituents and want to provide normalcy to your homes and businesses. We promise, we will not let up on restoration efforts.
Please also encourage your constituents and citizens to continue to report any new power outages so that we are aware and can respond. We are finding that some of the current outages are due to after-effects of the storm, such as tree limbs that were weakened by the storm are just now falling into power lines; for these reasons, power outage numbers may fluctuate.
Outages can be reported online, at 1-800-554-OPPD (6773), or through the OPPDconnect app.
Please note that the direct customer line is experiencing longer wait times than normal, so the online and app options are encouraged.
Customers can also find timely updates at StormAndOutage.com
