Carter Lake Fire Department is mourning the loss of Retired Fire Chief Carl Wilson. Carl Wilson passed on March 23, 2026, at the age of 91. He was the last of our charter members serving from 1956 to 1991. During this time he devoted countless hours of service to our community.

As a charter member Carl was one of the 24 members that established our department. Following the electrical fire that destroyed our first station. Carl was one of the members that would build the station that we use today, going into service August 8, 1976. Carl constantly pushed for improving the department. This included aiding in purchasing our first ambulance, forming the water rescue team, and joining Tri-Mutual Aid.

As our longest serving chief, Carl created a legacy that remains a part of department to this day.
