In Lovelock, NV, Pershing County High School shows what is possible when career exploration, immersive technology, trusted local educators, and workforce credentials come together for rural students.
This spring, 45 PCHS seniors completed Nevada’s Individual Career Mapping program, moving through virtual reality career field trips, labor market literacy activities, career mapping, ACT WorkKeys preparation, and final National Career Readiness Certificate testing. The results are worth celebrating:
✅ 41 students earned an ACT National Career Readiness Certificate
✅ 91% credential attainment rate
✅ 29 students earned Silver or higher
✅ 37% improvement in labor market literacy assessment scores
✅ 5 PCHS faculty members trained as ICM Navigators to help sustain the model locally
Just as important, students reported gaining a clearer understanding of workplace environments, training requirements, job skills, and career pathways. That's the kind of confidence that matters as they move into adult life.
This is rural workforce development in action: local leadership, practical tools, measurable outcomes, and a pathway that can continue after the initial grant investment.
