Mission: Helping Nevada prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters by building a more resilient Nevada through coordination and partnerships. The Nevada Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security coordinates the efforts of the State, its political subdivisions, private and volunteer organizations and tribal nations in reducing the impact of disasters by planning, developing, implementing and maintaining programs for mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

The Nevada Office of Emergency Management's State CERT Coordinator Hal O'Brien joined the Rail Auxiliary Teams as members reviewed railroad operations, discussed crossing safety and reviewed the latest rail system concerns.

Your emergency go-bag should include things like:
🚗 Driver's license
🪪 Passport(s) and Visas
📃 Marriage, birth, adoption and naturalization certificates
⚕️ Medical and dental records, immunization cards
🏠 Auto and Home Insurance policies, registrations and titles if applicable
📜 Power of attorney & will
🏫 School records

Wildfire recovery also includes the mountains that burned.

The Nevada Office of Emergency Management joined Washoe County, Nevada - Government the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Weather Service on soil and watershed assessments of the Peavine Mountain range today.

Teams documented soil stabilization in areas impacted by the Hawk Fire to assist in project planning and help mitigate potential debris flow, should the area see inclement weather. This work will help protect our mountains, wildlife and the people living nearby.

Happy Labor Day from the Nevada Office of Emergency Management!

The NV OEM staff wears a lot of hats in order to achieve our goal of helping people before, during and after disasters. We rise to the occasion, whether that be assuming new roles in the heat of an emergency, or spending time away from our families to be closer to a disaster.

To recognize the hard work of our local dispatchers during recent wildfires, the Nevada Office of Emergency Management delivered some swag bags full of disaster preparedness supplies to the Regional Emergency Operations Center.

While dispatchers handle emergency calls, they are also critical in coordinating first responders during a disaster. Their work is essential to keeping both our community and our first responders safe. Thank you for all your hard work.
