Thanks SO much to Boley Church of the Nazarene for making such a generous donation to our annual Family First Board Game Drive!

We couldn’t make this happen without the support of our local churches, businesses, and community groups. Every donation — big or small — plays a part in making sure every first grader in our area receives a gift they can share with their family this holiday season.

A quick update on the Gunter case:

The case against Marquese Gunter was continued at the defense’s request. Our office objected to the delay and was fully prepared for trial.

While some may speculate online, the facts will ultimately be proven in court, not on Facebook. I’d encourage the public to withhold judgment until the trial, where the actual facts will be presented.

I prosecuted the case against Vess Benton years ago and secured a 17-year sentence. Recently, I was required to recuse myself because of a conflict of interest that developed after the original prosecution. That conflict did not exist at the time of trial.

Both the Attorney General’s Office and the Alabama State Bar were consulted with regard to the conflict, and provided guidance in the decision to recuse. I personally spoke with both victims’ families and explained the conflict so they heard it directly from me.

Any suggestions of corruption or wrongdoing are false. My recusal protects the integrity of the case and ensures it can move forward without risk of being overturned. The Attorney General’s Office now has full responsibility, and I’ve provided them with all the information and resources they need.

Spreading conspiracy theories and rumors on social media doesn’t serve justice. It only misleads the public and does a disservice to the victims and this community.

An Aliceville man who shot and killed his uncle in 2023 will serve 30 years in prison.

Erick Dewayne Lindsey, 39, pleaded guilty to the murder of Willie Lindsey Jr., 63, in Pickens County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
We’ve worked closely with Mr. Willie Lindsey’s family throughout this process. They’ve shown real strength through an incredibly painful time, and we continue to lift them up in prayer.

Deputies with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls of shots fired on County Road 87 during the early morning hours of Feb. 24, 2023. They entered the home and found Willie Lindsey had suffered fatal gunshot wounds and head injuries.

Investigators determined the men argued after spending time with friends at a bar in Sumter County during the hours before the murder.

Erick Lindsey initially claimed his uncle had threatened him and fired at his SUV as they returned to Pickens County in separate vehicles. However, the investigation revealed that Erick Lindsey was the aggressor.

He followed his uncle home, shot him multiple times, and then struck him in the head repeatedly with a shotgun.

This was a violent and deliberate act that ended a man’s life and deeply affected an entire family. I appreciate the thorough work by law enforcement to uncover the facts and hold the offender accountable.

I'd like to thank the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the Aliceville and Carrollton police departments and the Pickens County Coroner’s Office as well as Assistant District Attorney Jack Nolen for their work on the case.
