At 1:40pm, another batch of storms have moved into Pickens and Sumter County in west Alabama, with the first round pushing into east and central Alabama.

The air is pretty worked over in west Alabama, so the next round of storms is remaining below severe levels at the moment. I will keep an eye on those storms as they move east.

The First Alert Weather team has declared Friday, May 22, a First Alert Weather Day due to the threat of heavy rain and gusty winds.

The Storm Prediction Center has introduced a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of a severe storm Friday afternoon.

This is not a classic setup, but there may be enough lift and instability to get a storm energized.

If a storm manages to become severe, the main threat would be gusty winds and small hail. The tornado risk is very low, but I’ll keep a close eye on radar 1pm to 8pm.
