On 5-24-26, deputies responded to Tabernacle Road regarding a reported burglary. Upon arrival, the suspect fled the residence and ran into the woods. Deputies began searching the area and made contact with Lowndes County Sheriff Hawkins. Due to the close proximity to Lowndes County, Sheriff Hawkins immediately sent deputies to assist.

After working together, Lowndes County deputies conducted a traffic stop near Lee Stokes Road and successfully took Gerry Scott Dailey into custody.

I cannot thank Sheriff Hawkins enough for his assistance, continued support, and the strong working relationship between our agencies.

Dailey was already wanted for Theft and Burglary charges and will now face an additional Burglary charge related to today’s incident.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a grant to equip deputies with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), significantly enhancing their ability to respond in life saving situations.

Funding for this initiative was made possible through this grant, along with the continued efforts of the Alabama Sheriffs Association in securing opioid settlement funds. These resources allow our deputies to be better prepared to protect both themselves and the citizens they serve.

As a result, each deputy will now be equipped with an AED in their patrol vehicle, with additional units placed throughout the Sheriff’s Office and the Correctional Facility. This investment strengthens our commitment to public safety and ensures a higher level of emergency response across Pickens County.
