City of Caro Fire Department

City of Caro Fire Department 9896732002 The Caro Fire Department was formed by resolution of the City Council in 1884. We respond on an average to 300 calls per year.

A group of gentlemen approached the City Council about forming a fire brigade to protect the citizens of the city. The Council thought it was a good idea and the fire department was formed. Since that time the fire department has evolved into the finest fire service delivery organization in the county. We are 25 members strong, and cover 117 square miles in the heart of Tuscola County. We have two

class “A” pumper trucks, a 105ft aerial platform, 3500 gallon water tanker, a grass fire truck, a 6x6 offroad rescue and grass utv, a utility truck, a moblie air cascade trailer, and our newest addition is a incident response team trailer/command center. Our members are trained to a minimum Firefighter II level with Hazardous Materials Operations level certification. Many of our officers are trained to the Fire Officer Level 3. Caro has a fully equipped training room and is host to the county fire instructor’s training program. We are blessed to have one of the most active fire service instructor groups in the State of Michigan right here in Tuscola County. In addition the firefighters raised money for and built the only Training Tower in this part of the state. It is located on the west end of the Tuscola County Fairgrounds. We have the only inflatable fire prevention smoke training house in the county and have an intensive fire prevention program. What we do is summed up in our mission statement:

The City of Caro Fire Department would like to extend a very big thank you to the Caro Moose Lodge for the donation of Tommy Moose stuffed animals.
Something so simple can mean the world to a child that has been through a tragic incident. We carry stuffed animals and blankets on almost all of our apparatus's to provide in the time of need. Thank you Mandy Knox for stopping by the fire station to deliver them.🫎

Last week, the City of Caro Fire Department had the bittersweet honor of wishing Tuscola County Emergency Manager, Lieutenant Steve Anderson, a happy retirement.

Steve dedicated 27 years of service with professionalism, commitment, and sacrifice. Throughout his career, he worked tirelessly to make Tuscola County a safer and better place for all.

Steve partnered closely with the Caro Fire Department, helping secure valuable equipment that strengthened our capabilities, including a Milwaukee tower light, Lucas CPR device, body armor, a mobile air trailer, and essential emergency supplies such as gloves, masks, gowns, and sanitizer. He also played a key role in coordinating and participating in numerous training exercises, including mock car accidents, mass casualty school bus scenarios, active shooter response trainings, and National Night Out Events.

His impact extended well beyond Tuscola County, as he assisted and supported agencies across the state. Steve was not only a respected colleague and invaluable asset, but also a trusted friend to many. His attention to detail and unwavering dedication to doing the job right never went unnoticed.

We commend Steve for his 27 years of selfless service, dedication, and partnership. We wish him all the best in his retirement and future endeavors.
