Today, we were officially appointed to serve a new client during a court hearing that left a deep impression on our team.

The client quietly wept during the proceedings. For 22 years, her previous guardian provided unwavering care and dedication, but due to advanced age, is no longer able to assist.

Transitions like this are heavy, filled with grief for the past and uncertainty for the future. We deeply respect the two-decade legacy of care that came before us.

To our new client: we know we have big shoes to fill. Please know that Connections Human Services is completely committed to stepping into this role with empathy and respect. We will do absolutely everything we can to support you, advocate for you, and ensure you are never alone. πŸ’™

We have relied on the incredible support of the United Way of Tuscola County for many years to help us serve our community. Recently, we thought we had missed out on this year's vital funding - a heavy hit for our team and the people we serve.

But the universe (and the amazing team at United Way) had other plans! They reached out to let us know a check originally sent back in November 2025 had gone missing in transit, and they have officially reissued it to us.

These funds make it directly possible for Connections Human Services to continue providing essential services for our indigent clients right here in Tuscola County. Every single dollar makes a profound difference in someone's life.

A massive, heartfelt THANK YOU to the United Way of Tuscola County for your continued partnership, your extra effort to track this down, and your unwavering support. We are so incredibly grateful! πŸ’™βœ¨

We were so moved to see this story about Owen Smith’s special day with the Tuscola County justice and law enforcement teams.

This story hits close to home for us at Connections Human Services. One of our own team members has a child who fought cancer and won, so we know firsthand the incredible strength it takes for both the children and their families to navigate that journey. Seeing our local officials come together to make a dream come true for a brave young man like Owen reminds us why we are so proud to serve this community.

Sharing a blast from the past. 10 years ago we were assisting 65 people. Much of the work was done by our founder, a part time staff person an Interns from Baker. They made a difference. Leave a comment if you were an intern.

This is the reality of the work we do. A lifelong caregiver and babysitter - only 45 years old and now residing in a nursing home due to an unexpected and life-altering health event - was just denied Social Security Disability.

It’s a reminder that the path to support is often long and full of obstacles. Connections Human Services took this case pro bono because we believe no one should have to face these hurdles alone. We’re upset and disappointed, but we’re still fighting for her.

As a small non-profit, our resources for pro bono advocacy are limited. Cases like this require hours of work.

If you would like to support our ability to take on more pro bono cases for neighbors in need, please consider donating here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/support-connections-human-services-this-giving-tuesday

While we love these fun superhero suits, the real "superpowers" at Connections Human Services are the dedication, empathy, and hard work our staff puts in every single day.

We are honored to serve our clients, who are the true heroes in our eyes. Every day, they battle through life’s struggles with resilience and strength. Our mission is to be the bridge that helps them navigate those gaps - protecting their interests and providing the high-quality services they deserve to live their best, most independent lives.

To our incredible team: thank you for being the protectors and providers our community needs. And to our clients: thank you for inspiring us to be our best selves every day! πŸ›‘οΈπŸ€

This is not one of our clients, but we are familiar with the home where he resides. The manager of the home stopped in today and was spreading the word about him not returning home. Please keep on the lookout!

UPDATE: SUBJECT HAS BEEN LOCATED

Thanks to FLOCK cameras we were able to get hits on Vargo's vehicle as it traveled all the way to Florida. Cpl Jon Bonk made contact with Vargo and reported the great news. Interestingly enough, Bonk used to work as a Tuscola County Sheriff's Deputy in the Corrections Division. We are happy he is still serving the citizens of Tuscola, even from Florida!
