Human Development Commission Community Action Agency HDC: Restoring Hope by Helping People and Changing Lives.

HDC is one of approximately 1,000 Community Action Agencies (CAAs) serving the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. CAAs were the centerpiece of President Lyndon Johnson's "War on Poverty" and founded as non-profit organizations that fight poverty at the local level. CAAs cover all cities and counties in the country and are a primary source of support for low-income individuals and seniors who wish to become self-sufficient and/or live independently.

A blood lead test can help identify whether a child has been exposed to lead. Testing is encouraged before applying to HDC’s Lead Program, but it’s not required to apply. If a child in the household has Medicaid and an elevated blood lead level, the household may receive higher priority on the waitlist.

Have questions about disability resources? Join us at Marlette Senior Center on Tuesday, October 27. Disability Network of Eastern Michigan will share information about programs, resources and services that help people with disabilities live more independently and stay connected.

The presentation starts at 12:15 p.m. at the Marlette VFW, 2942 N. Main St., Marlette. Call 989-553-1612 to reserve your spot or ask a question.

Planning to have lunch too? Lunch is at noon, with a suggested $3 donation. Please reserve your meal at least 24 hours ahead and let the center know you’d like lunch when you call.

Lead Hazards can be hard to spot. HDC’s Lead Program may help eligible households make their homes safer.

The program serves Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties, plus Bay County outside the City of Bay City. At least one child in the household must have Medicaid to qualify. A blood lead test is encouraged but not required to apply; a child’s elevated result may increase waitlist priority.
