Thank you to all who came out this morning to honor Werner. While he had no living relatives, we became his family and he will not be forgotten.

Werner Heinert a former resident at the Senator Leibell Putnam County Veterans Residence passed away late December 2025. He had been at the NYS Veterans Nursing Home for several months prior to his death. Werner has no known relatives. We will be holding a brief ceremony at the Cargain Funeral Home in Carmel on January 8th at 8:30 AM. He will then be transported to the Veterans cemetery in Saratoga, NY for interment.

No Veteran should be forgotten it is my hope that we can get a group of Veterans and friends to see Werner off to his final resting place. Please join us on 8th. There will be an Army Honor Guard to celebrate his service to our nation.

"VA is expanding health care eligibility to millions of Veterans, including all Veterans who served in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan or any other combat zone after 9/11, years earlier than called for by the PACT Act. These Veterans will be eligible to enroll directly in VA health care without first applying for VA benefits.

Additionally, Veterans who never deployed but were exposed to toxins or hazards while training or on active duty in the United States will also be eligible to enroll.

This expansion of VA health care eliminates the phased-in approach called for by the PACT Act, meaning that millions of Veterans are becoming eligible for VA health care up to eight years earlier than written into law."

“Once you’re in, you have access for life.”

Millions of Veterans exposed to toxins are now eligible for VA health care without first applying for VA benefits.
