🍪 Happy Extra Dessert Day! 🍪

What better way to celebrate than with a fresh batch of homemade cookies? Our residents teamed up to mix, scoop, and bake a delicious treat together — and had a blast doing it!

Baking together is about more than just something sweet. It's hands-on, purposeful, and social — key Montessori principles we love bringing into daily life here. Residents moved at their own pace, made their own choices, leaned on familiar skills, and took pride in creating something to share.

And of course, the best part? Gathering together to enjoy the cookies and celebrate a job well done! 🎉

✨ Spiritual care that meets every resident right where they are.
At Bickford, we believe faith should feel supported, personal, and alive. That’s why our residents receive professional, consistent spiritual care—not just occasional visits.

Here’s what makes our approach different:
🙏 Multi‑Faith Support
No matter your beliefs, we’ll help connect you with the resources that support your personal faith journey.

⛪ Religious Services On‑Site
We offer regular church services, music, Bible studies, and small group gatherings—right inside the branch.

👥 Chaplains Program
While most senior living communities rely on volunteers, we partner with local chaplains to provide dependable, professional spiritual support.

💬 One‑on‑One Visits
Your loved one is never just a face in the crowd. Our chaplains build personal relationships through routine, individual visits.

🚗 Offsite Support
In moments of crisis—hospital stays, skilled care, or funerals—our chaplains go with your loved one to offer comfort and prayer.

Because spiritual well‑being matters—and every resident deserves a place where their faith can grow. ❤️

🧭 How do we keep our care grounded in what matters most?
We listen—to the families who trust us every day.

Instead of overwhelming surveys, we ask one intentional question each month. Just one. The reflections we receive bring clarity, inspiration, and purpose, reminding us why we do what we do.

At Bickford, care goes beyond tasks—it’s built on relationships, trust, and meaningful conversation.

Finding Paul Again

When Paul arrived at Bickford following his hospital stay, he found himself suspended between two realities — physically able, yet mentally burdened by the effects of frontal lobe dementia. His evenings were haunted by vivid hallucinations, and his mental health was steadily declining. Once a passionate runner who thrived on movement, Paul still longed to stay active. However, the medication prescribed during his hospitalization weakened his neck muscles so severely that he struggled to lift his head or make eye contact, further isolating him from the world around him.

Bickford’s HigherPath approach brought the team together to help Paul find his way back.
✅ Our on-site nurse practitioner reviewed and adjusted his medications.
✅ Fox Therapy’s in-house team used physical therapy to strengthen his neck muscles.
✅ After thoughtful discussion, The HigherPath council decided to transition him to Mary B’s neighborhood. This environment offers fewer distractions, smaller group settings, and a more personalized approach to care—perfect for meeting Paul’s unique needs.

Today, Paul is back on his feet and walking confidently throughout the building and engaging in outings. He now meets your gaze with clarity and connection—a remarkable transformation. Even more impressively, since these changes were implemented, Paul has not experienced a single fall or ER visit, an extraordinary outcome for someone on his type of medication.

🎨✨ Finding Purpose Through Interests ✨🎨

Diane is discovering new purpose by sharing her talents with others. After creating a craft on her own, she expressed a desire to teach it to the community, so we made it happen! Diane's craft was added to the calendar, and she took the lead by demonstrating each step and helping residents who needed assistance along the way.

This is Montessori in action. By building on residents' interests, strengths, and life experiences, we create meaningful opportunities for them to contribute, lead, and make a difference in the lives of others. Watching Diane step into the role of Activity Assistant has been a beautiful reminder that everyone has gifts to share and purpose to fulfill.

💛 We are so proud of you, Diane!

From Solitude to Social Joy

When Che Che first moved into Bickford, she preferred the comfort of her room. Overwhelmed by the transition into assisted living, she rarely joined group activities and often kept to herself, feeling isolated from the vibrant life around her.

Bickford’s HigherPath approach brought the team together to help Che Che find her way back.
✅ Our Lifestyle Coordinator gently encouraged her to explore activities at her own pace.
✅ Fellow residents and BFMs extended genuine friendship, creating a safe and welcoming space.
✅ Through these connections, Che Che began stepping out of her room and into the heart of the community.

Today, Che Che can often be found laughing with friends, joining craft sessions, and attending social gatherings. Her transformation is more than participation—it’s rediscovering joy, belonging, and the simple beauty of human connection. From solitude to social joy, Che Che reminds us that it’s never too late to open your heart to new experiences.

A Taste of Italy at Bickford! 🍰

To celebrate Italian Day, our residents rolled up their sleeves and created a delicious homemade tiramisu together.

Inspired by Montessori principles, this hands-on activity encouraged residents to be active participants every step of the way. With ingredients thoughtfully prepared and displayed, each resident chose how they wanted to contribute, measuring, mixing, dipping, and layering at their own pace while using familiar skills and routines.

It was more than just making dessert. It was an opportunity to engage the senses, foster independence, build confidence, and enjoy meaningful connection with one another.

And the best part? Enjoying a sweet taste of Italy together at the end! ❤️

🌟 We Hear You—Because It Matters
At Bickford, we know families hold insight no one else can. That’s why each month we ask one intentional question—simple, heartfelt, and focused on what truly counts.

Your words guide us.
They influence how we care.
They keep our relationships genuine and personal.

Because here, care isn’t just something we do—it’s something we build together.

From Isolation to Impact

When Gail moved into Bickford, she was living with Parkinson’s disease and struggling with deep depression. She rarely left her room and showed little interest in activities or connection. The joy and purpose that once defined her daily life felt out of reach.

Bickford’s HigherPath approach brought the team together to help Gail rediscover confidence, engagement, and meaning.
✅ HigherPath discussions and “Getting to Know You” tools helped the team identify person‑centered ways to re‑engage Gail
✅ Fox Therapy provided Parkinson’s‑focused therapy, including LSVT BIG exercises to improve balance, strength, and mobility
✅ Curana Health adjusted medications, finding the right combination to manage symptoms
✅ Gentle encouragement from the Happiness Coordinator helped Gail begin attending bingo — and even assisting with setup
✅ A Montessori‑based approach uncovered Gail’s 20‑year nursing career, leading to a meaningful new role as the community’s “Hydration Nurse”

Today, Gail has transformed from a withdrawn resident into a purposeful caregiver once again. As the Hydration Nurse, she helps others stay healthy, builds connections, and finds fulfillment in serving her community — one sip at a time.

Gail’s journey reflects the heart of the Higher Path: honoring dignity, restoring purpose, and proving that with personalized care and compassion, residents can thrive in ways that truly matter.
