From Isolation to Impact
When Gail moved into Bickford, she was living with Parkinson’s disease and struggling with deep depression. She rarely left her room and showed little interest in activities or connection. The joy and purpose that once defined her daily life felt out of reach.
Bickford’s HigherPath approach brought the team together to help Gail rediscover confidence, engagement, and meaning.
✅ HigherPath discussions and “Getting to Know You” tools helped the team identify person‑centered ways to re‑engage Gail
✅ Fox Therapy provided Parkinson’s‑focused therapy, including LSVT BIG exercises to improve balance, strength, and mobility
✅ Curana Health adjusted medications, finding the right combination to manage symptoms
✅ Gentle encouragement from the Happiness Coordinator helped Gail begin attending bingo — and even assisting with setup
✅ A Montessori‑based approach uncovered Gail’s 20‑year nursing career, leading to a meaningful new role as the community’s “Hydration Nurse”
Today, Gail has transformed from a withdrawn resident into a purposeful caregiver once again. As the Hydration Nurse, she helps others stay healthy, builds connections, and finds fulfillment in serving her community — one sip at a time.
Gail’s journey reflects the heart of the Higher Path: honoring dignity, restoring purpose, and proving that with personalized care and compassion, residents can thrive in ways that truly matter.
