Putnam County is seeking your input!

The Draft Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Plan (CCARP) is now available for public review, and we encourage residents, businesses, community organizations, and those who work in Putnam County to share their feedback. This is the final opportunity to provide input before the Plan is adopted.

Developed in partnership with the Hudson Valley Regional Council (HVRC) and fully funded through the NYS DEC's Climate Smart Communities Coordinator Services Program, the Plan will help prepare Putnam County for climate-related challenges and build a safer, healthier, and more resilient future.

Your feedback is an important part of the planning process and will help shape the final plan.

The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Central Fairfield County in southern Connecticut... Westchester County in southeastern New York... Eastern Putnam County in southeastern New York... Rockland County in southeastern New York...

Until noon EDT.

At 1109 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Ossining, moving northeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and power lines.

This severe thunderstorm will be near... Mount Kisco around 1120 AM EDT. Yorktown Heights around 1125 AM EDT. Bedford around 1130 AM EDT. Ridgefield around 1145 AM EDT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

A Flood Watch has been issued for Putnam County in anticipation of rain and thunderstorms.

During a flood, water levels and rate at which the water is flowing can quickly change. Most flood fatalities occur in vehicles. You don't know how deep the water is. Even when water recedes, the ground may be unstable.

Do not attempt to drive through a flooded road. Turn around, don't drown!

NEVER drive through barricades.

Rising and fast floodwaters can sweep vehicles away or cause you to lose control of a vehicle.

Stay out of floodwaters! Floodwaters hide dangers that can cause sickness, injury, or even death: animals and insects, live wires, dangerous chemicals, sewage, harmful bacteria, and sharp objects and debris.

**FLASH FLOOD WARNING**

A flash flood warning has been issued for western Putnam County until 7pm.

At 415 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of
rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

Turn around when encountering flooded roads.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

** WEATHER UPDATE**

While we are still in a FLOOD WATCH, due to the slow moving front, the watch has been extended until 8pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

This slow moving pressure system will bring multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms to the area today through Wednesday.

Rainfall amounts are expected to be in the 3-5" range. Peak rainfall could be as high as 2-3" per hour.

During a flood, water levels and the rate at which the water is flowing can quickly change. Get to higher ground. Do not drive or walk into water. It only takes 6 inches of water to knock you off your feet. Stay informed by monitoring local radio and television for updates. weather.gov/safety/flood

Flood Watch Issued for Putnam County

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday into Wednesday across the region. Some areas could receive rainfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour, increasing the risk of flash flooding.

There’s a possibility of:
• Flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas
• Rapid rises on small streams and creeks
• Ponding of water on roadways
• Difficult travel during periods of heavy rain

A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding - it does not mean flooding is occurring yet.

Putnam County and the wider region is currently under a tornado and flood watch. County Executive Kevin Byrne has directed the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services and county departments to remain on heightened alert and continue coordinating response efforts throughout the duration of the storm.

Our Department of Public Works is actively responding to localized water damage, At this time, roads remain open and DPW crews will remain on duty until the tornado threat has passed to respond quickly to any developing issues.

The County is also coordinating with NYSEG which has brought in additional crews to respond in the event of power outages.
