Warning for Western Putnam

At 726 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Montgomery, or near Goshen, moving east at 60 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

This severe thunderstorm will be near... Newburgh and Cold Spring around 735 PM EDT. Fahnestock State Park around 745 PM EDT.

UPDATE 6:15pm SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a
Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... North central Fairfield County in southern Connecticut... Eastern Putnam County in southeastern New York... Until 700 PM EDT.

At 601 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Pine Plains to Millbrook to near Pleasant Valley to Marlboro, moving east at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.

Severe thunderstorms will be near... Sherman around 620 PM EDT. New Fairfield around 640 PM EDT. Brookfield around 650 PM EDT.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of CT, NJ and NY until 10PM tonight. The main threats will be damaging winds and hail. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. If headed out, have a plan to take shelter if a storm gets too close.

UPDATE:
Due to public concern.

Regarding yesterday’s motor vehicle accident on I-84/I-684, the dog seen at the scene of the crash has been safely located.

A Good Samaritan noticed a dog roaming on their property and reported it. A big thank you to them, the Putnam 911 dispatcher who provided information regarding reports of a dog involved in the crash, and the New York State Police who assisted in identifying the owner. This was truly a team effort.

We are happy to report that the dog is safe, and well.

** Update 12:55pm - 1 Lane in Both Directions open **

84 w/b at 684 - Two Tractor Trailer MVA w/ Entrapment. Both E/B and W/B sides are affected. Please avoid the area. Brewster Fire Department, Empress Emergency Medical Services, New York State Police, Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Croton Falls Fire Department, North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NSVAC.ORG), and Danbury Fire Department - CT are working the scene.

Heavy Traffic in the area, and the roadway will be closed for an extended period of time.

*** Road Work Announcement, Cold Spring ***

Beginning on Monday, June 1st, roadway construction will begin on the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Fishkill Avenue. This is a FEMA recovery project from the July 2023 flooding, and it will bring much-needed stormwater and pedestrian safety upgrades at this intersection. The work is estimated to take 4-6 weeks, depending on weather conditions. Here’s what to expect:

The intersection may be closed intermittently to pedestrian and vehicular traffic during work hours – Monday-Friday from 7am-4pm.

The area is anticipated to be re-opened for safe evening passage and parking

The School District has been informed and will push out an announcement through their platforms.

Thank you for your patience and tolerance as this much-needed work is completed.

As of Yesterday (May 20th), Route 6N has reopened.

AS OF MAY 20th - ROUTE 6N IS OPEN

*** LONG TERM ROUTE 6N CLOSURE ***

There will be a culvert replacement project on Route 6N in Mahopac beginning on 3/23 which should be completed by mid-May.

It is located approximately 2/10ths mile from the Westchester/Putnam Line between 41 Route 6N & 44 Route 6N (not far from the trailer park on Route 6N).

Route 6N will be closed while the culvert is replaced and a detour will be utilized. The Detour will utilize Route 6 and Putnam County Route 37 (Baldwin Place Rd.).

Please be aware of this road closure and make appropriate changes to your travel routes. This is a New York State Project.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued, in effect until 9 pm. The main hazards with any severe storms will be damaging winds up to 70 mph, and hail up to one inch in diameter. Frequent lightning is also possible in any strong to severe storms.
