It’s National Public Safety Telecommunications Week!
Read a message from one of Clinton County’s finest, explaining her “why” behind becoming a dispatcher -
“My reason for becoming a 911 dispatcher is simple….the chaos. That might sound wrong to some people, but it’s the truth. I’m drawn to the moments when an ordinary day turns urgent, unpredictable, and real. When people don’t know what to do, that’s where I step in. It’s not just the emergencies, it’s everything that comes with them: the pressure, the responsibility, and the need to stay steady when everything else isn’t.
I find purpose in being the calm voice on the other end of the line. I’m there when someone calls for help, making sure they get the assistance they need. I care about helping people, I truly value serving my community.
I think 911 dispatchers are just one vital piece of the puzzle of emergency services. We are there to support our deputies, officers, fire departments, and EMS personnel so they can do their jobs effectively. There are many wheels turning in the communications center. From paperwork, to answering phones, to helping the entire office run efficiently, we as dispatchers are at the center of it all, still answering the calls for service during the everyday madness. I am not alone. I work alongside some of the best men & women in this field & it’s something I don’t take for granted.
So when I say my reason is the chaos, it’s because I’m exactly where I’m meant to be, loving every minute of it.
Happy 911 Telecommunications week to all my fellow dispatchers!”
