đźš” Three Arrested in Regional Jeep Theft Investigation
Law enforcement agencies across San Diego County have seen a rise in thefts involving newer-model Jeep vehicles. Since August 2025, at least 12 Jeep thefts have been reported in Carlsbad.
Using investigative work and Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology, Carlsbad Police officers identified a suspect vehicle believed to be connected to many of the thefts. Investigators also learned the stolen Jeeps were often driven into Mexico shortly after being stolen.
On June 4, 2026, Carlsbad Police and the San Diego County Regional Auto Theft Task Force conducted a coordinated surveillance operation targeting an organized auto theft crew. Detectives later identified a Jeep believed to have just been stolen in San Diego. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit that ended in Chula Vista when the stolen Jeep rolled over.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with the investigation and booked on charges related to vehicle theft, conspiracy, felony evading, and possession of burglary tools.
This investigation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated regional efforts and advanced technology in combating organized auto theft. We remind the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
