⚠️ CARLOCK COMMUNITY NOTICE: RE-POSTING OUR NUMBER ONE GENERATOR SAFETY RULE ⚠️

If the power goes out and you are firing up a portable generator, the Carlock Fire Protection District wants to remind everyone of the most critical rule to keep your family safe: ALWAYS RUN GENERATORS OUTSIDE, AWAY FROM THE HOUSE.

Never, under any circumstances, run a generator inside your home, garage, basement, crawlspace, or even a shed—even if you leave the doors open or have a fan running.

Keep it at least 20 feet away from:
❌ Windows
❌ Doors
❌ Vents
❌ Attached garages

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a silent killer. You can’t see it, smell it, or taste it, but it can build up to lethal levels in minutes.

Stay Safe:
1️⃣ Point the Exhaust Away: Ensure the generator's exhaust is facing completely away from your house (and your neighbor's house!).
2️⃣ Check Your Alarms: Make sure you have working battery-operated Carbon Monoxide detectors on every level of your home.
3️⃣ Know the Symptoms: CO poisoning feels like the flu without a fever. Look out for dizziness, headaches, nausea, weakness, confusion, and chest pain.
If you suspect CO poisoning or your detector goes off, get everyone into fresh air immediately and call 911.

Our crews are always ready to respond, but we'd much rather help you prevent an emergency before it starts.
Stay safe, look out for your neighbors, and please share this post to help keep our community safe!

INCIDENT – STRUCTURE FIRE: On 3/16/26 at approximately 13:46 Carlock Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire located on Sunset Lake Rd in Carlock, IL.

The first arriving unit reported a working fire and requested a 2nd Alarm, bringing in mutual aid departments from Normal FD, Danvers FD, Hudson FD and Congerville FD. All occupants and pets had exited the structure prior to fire department arrival.

Suppression crews worked extremely hard to bring this stubborn fire under control but faced uncontrollable obstacles with high winds and freezing temperatures.

There were no injuries reported.

The Carlock Fire Protection District would like to send a sincere THANK YOU to our mutual aid departments. It was definitely a challenging day, and we truly appreciate your assistance.
