The County Vector Control Office was first established in 1972 to combat pests resulting from Hurricane Agnes including rodents, mosquitoes, and associated human health concerns. The County Vector Control office includes assistance and information on vector and non-vector pests listed as follows:
Mosquitoes: Mosquito-borne Disease Program PA DEP
West Nile Virus and Zika Virus
Dead Birds: Testing

& Reporting
Blackfly (Gnat) Suppression Program PA DEP
Household Pests / Wildlife Information
Gypsy Moth Program PA DCNR

We are not responsible for a post or comment from an individual or group; however, we reserve the right to hide any post that violates our county policy. Comments and content posted on our county sites may be subject to public disclosure. Communications posted on this page will not be construed as satisfying requirements for legal notice or service, shall not be considered official public comment, and shall not be construed as an official request for records pursuant to the Right-to-Know Law. The Cumberland County Commissioners recently honored John Shope for his 40 years he has spent with the county in the Vector Control program.

John started with Vector Control in 1986 part time in addition to working a full time job.

Through the years he has set thousands of data collection traps, spent hundreds of hours contributing to the safety of the county's residents by treating whenever he was needed, and has taken every opportunity to put those who live in the county first sacrificing evenings, nights, and weekends.

Since 2019 John has also worked for the county's recycling program, showing up every shift and every special event that he can attend, never complaining, and always giving 100%.

Thank you John, and we appreciate everything you have done and continued to do!
