Tomorrow, Friday June 5, the U.S. Army War College’s graduation ceremony will honor the 372 graduates of the Class of 2026, including 77 international officers from 73 partner nations. The U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center hosted "Know Your Army" this morning giving NSS guest the opportunity to meet not only military personnel but also the equipment they operate. Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard were on-site to showcase their military equipment and share their firsthand experiences. Guest asked insightful questions and got up close with the gear Soldiers use to accomplish their missions. To cap off an morning the NSS guests and military members sat down together for a shared lunch, continuing the conversations they started throughout the day.

Day two of NSS featured civilian guests and student leaders diving into critical issues during Affinity Group forums, sparking insightful and engaging discussions on national security. In the afternoon, the groups left the seminar rooms and stepped onto hallowed ground for a staff ride to the Gettysburg National Battlefield. The staff ride experience is not just about history; it is a study of strategy, and leadership under immense stress, and the harsh realities of making critical decisions with limited situational awareness.

The students at the U.S. Army War College welcomed their civilian guests for the National Security Seminar this morning, June 1. Kicking off an incredible week of collaboration and learning that helps to bridge the gap between military and civilian communities. Over the next four days, NSS guests will be fully integrated into student seminars, joining critical discussions about national security, strategy, and leadership; participating in a staff ride to the historic Gettysburg battlefield; and engaging in insightful discussions with senior military and civilian leaders.

The Army War College welcomed Wayne State University, Prof. Dr. Deane Aikens, on May 28. Aikens delivered a presentation to USAWC students titled, "What emotion regulation reveals about leadership and decision making." In stressful military and strategic environments, understanding how we process and manage emotions is vital. Aikens provided invaluable insights into how emotional intelligence and regulation directly impact effective leadership, team dynamics, and complex strategic choices.

USAWC students from seminar 13 wrapped up their staff ride to Washington, D.C., on May 14th with visits to the Hudson Institute and Lockheed Martin. Hudson’s Mr. Bryan Clark, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Defense Concepts and Technology, touched on autonomous systems, their challenges, and their uses across multiple domains. Retired Lt. Gen. Pat Donahue, VP for Army and Special Operations Forces Programs, led off the presentation at Lockheed Martin. Donahue touched on the challenges of a rapidly evolving security environment and the need to accelerate transformation to meet DoW’s strategy priorities.

On May 11, 2026, U.S. Army War College students from Seminar 18 visited the Jordanian Mission to the United Nations to gain firsthand insights into global diplomacy and international security operations. Mr. Walid Obeidat, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Jordan, welcomed the students. During the engagement, Mr. Obeidat discussed the critical, ongoing work of Jordan's UN mission. He took time to reflect on the long, proud tradition of the enduring relationship between Jordan and the United States. The engagement provides our future strategic leaders with the global perspective necessary to navigate complex security environments. A huge thank you to Mr. Obeidat and the entire Jordanian Mission team for their outstanding hospitality.
