Structure Fire Release – Town of Carlisle
At approximately 4:33 a.m. this morning, the Carlisle Fire Department was dispatched for a reported smoke sighting in the area of Corbin Hill Road and State Route 20. The initial caller was traveling eastbound on Route 20 and observed smoke in the distance.
Within six minutes of dispatch, a crew consisting of two officers responded on the first-due engine. Multiple members responding to the station also observed smoke to the north of Route 20. While investigating the report, ETA 2031 responded toward Vanderwerken Road and located a heavily involved two-story residence.
Upon confirming a working structure fire from Chief 2013 mutual aid from Esperance Fire and Rescue, Sharon Springs Fire Department, Central Bridge Fire Department, and Cobleskill Fire Department was requested to the scene on initial working fire dispatch. Rural Grove Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene to provide additional manpower.
Schoharie County Ambulance North and Cobleskill EMS responded on the initial structure fire assignment. One resident was transported by County Ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation, requiring a second County Ambulance to provide coverage for the area during the incident.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire. All units were back in service at approximately 7:05 a.m.
Following the incident, the homeowner stated that he was awakened by the sound of his smoke detectors activating. By the time he became aware of the situation his residence was well involved. He was able to self extricate and was transported to a local hospital and was later released.
