I had the privilege to have a lunch break today @ our local new establishment “Village station” since I missed the soft opening. I would like to personally congratulate Amber King for her passion to open this and follow her dream to share with our community. We had a great experience!!! The staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean, the restrooms were clean as well, food was yummy and hot !!! I appreciated Amber taking the time to visit our table and ask for feedback and just check in.
Our town is very lucky to have you to have chosen your restaurant to be here !!!
Thank you very much for all your hard work to get here and looking to seeing you here for many years to come!!

Would love to have you join us 🇺🇸🙏. Let me know if you can make it and I will get an RSVP in for you!

The Gross Lumber Company has been a Carlisle staple for over a century. Our history in the lumber business started with Owen C. Gross, who came into the business as a bookkeeper in the late 1890s. In 1913, Owen and his business partner, Mr. Basore, operated the business as Gross & Basore which was primarily a coal yard and grain elevator. In 1926, Owen became sole owner of the coal yard and grain elevator and began the transition to a full service lumber yard. He retired in 1950.
In 1945 Jim Gross, Sr. came back into the business after working for Aeronca Aircraft during the war. He was instrumental in forming the foundation for Gross Lumber Company until retiring in 1975. He was also on the first village council/board.
In 1974, Jim Gross Jr. returned to the business after his teaching career at Carlisle schools for 5 years. He moved the business into it’s current showroom in 1980 and also ran the business until he retired in 2020.
In 2018, Jamie (Jim, Jr’s son) came back into the business after working as an engineer for the Warren County Engineer and is currently running the business.
We continue to be a full-service lumber yard and hardware store that is proudly serving the Carlisle, Franklin, Germantown, Miamisburg, Middletown, Springboro, and surrounding areas.
The Gross Lumber Company works with building professionals as well as any resident searching for the best materials for their projects. We are very proud of our 18 employees who are more like family. They put our customers first and deliver service to everyone the way each generation has been shown. Our staff works hard to have the knowledge and experience to help support all of our customers with the highest quality products to make every project the best it can be. We are especially proud to have some of our staff with over 30 years of knowledge in the building materials business.

To prepare for the potential ice storm, here are some helpful tips:

People can also plan ahead by creating emergency kits, discussing emergency back up plans if they rely on electrically powered medical equipment and knowing where their fuse boxes or circuit breakers are located, AES Ohio said.

AES Ohio released the following winter preparedness tips ahead of the storm:

Before the storm:

Be sure to have your emergency storm kit readily available. Prepare your kit with an emergency radio (battery powered or solar charged), mobile device chargers, flashlights, first aid kit, non-perishable food items, water, face coverings, hand sanitizer, batteries and other necessities.
Develop an emergency plan that addresses any special medical needs or medications you or your family members have. Call your local emergency management office to discuss necessary arrangements.
Be prepared. Bookmark the AES Ohio’s Outage Center on your mobile device for quick access to report outages and get updates on our outage map. If your power goes out, report your outage immediately. Don’t rely on your neighbors to report your outage.
If your power goes out:

Turn off all appliances, including your furnace, space heaters, water heater and water pump. Leave on one lamp to know when power has been restored. That way, you can avoid a circuit overload and another outage that may result when power is restored to all appliances at once.
Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed. Food will stay frozen for 36 to 48 hours in a fully loaded freezer if you keep the door closed. A half-full freezer will generally keep food frozen for 24 hours.
Open your blinds during the day, cover windows with drapes at night and gather in a central room where there is an alternative heat source, such as a fireplace. Provide ample ventilation and ensure plenty of distance from your home or work when using portable generators.
If the indoor temperature drops to 55°F or below, open your faucets slightly so they constantly drip to prevent pipes from freezing.
Remain patient. Every electric company – including AES Ohio – has a detailed plan for restoring electricity as quickly and safely as possible after a power outage. Typically, one of the first steps a company takes—to prevent injuries and fires—is to make sure that power is no longer flowing through downed lines. Restoration then proceeds based on established priorities.
Customers can report downed power lines and outages by calling 877-4OUTAGE (877-468-8243).

Law Enforcement Officers of every rank and file have chosen a profession that puts their life on the line every day for their communities. They’ve answered a call to public service that is demanding and often unappreciated.

From local, state, and federal, their duties command dedication. The jobs are often thankless and take them away from their families for long hours. Rarely do they know what their days have in store for them.

I personally would like to thank our local police force for all their efforts in our community and beyond !!!!

Thank you for keeping our little town safe ❤️

And thank you to ALL police officers for yikes sacrifice 🙏

Tonight, members of City Council, Mayor Winkler, and City Manager Julie Duffy, presented the Business of the Month to Dairy Queen. They are a staple to our community and have appreciated the opportunity to be able to get food from them, even when the line has been long 😉. Jenny, the owner, has been very giving to all our special events, our athletics, and Christmas donation baskets. She has a big heart ♥️ to help and giveback and love that her team has worked very hard to stay open (drive thru) even through covid.
Thank you Jenny and your team for all that you do and choose Carlisle to be your destination spot for your business.

Please read below from Jenny herself about her business and what she sees for the future of Dairy Queen.

I have been a DQ fan my whole life, some of my sweetest memories begin with a simple trip to our hometown DQ. DQ has always held a special place in my heart. When I started working at DQ in 1999 as a cake decorator I had no idea I would still be doing it almost 23 years later! During the first 10 years I worked my way through every store position after several PRIDE awards and DQ recognitions I was chosen to become 1 of 8 Franchise/Manager Trainers for the DQ Training Department, this 28 day training program is a necessary step in becoming your own DQ Franchise owner. After helping so many others reach their goals, it made me more determined to own my own DQ.
That day came in March of 2009 when we happened to find this location in Carlisle Ohio. Immediately upon the opening of the Carlisle Dairy Queen we felt welcomed by the town, the businesses and the friendliness of the people, some actually came to help us get things ready. We were so encouraged by all of the smiling faces and the enthusiasm of the community to have a new clean DQ in their town. After 13 years it still gives us great pride to support Carlisle and area communities. We use and believe in supporting local small businesses whenever possible. We are so fortunate to have such a generous community. We strive to support all worthy causes that benefit our town, our people and our schools including team sponsorships, fundraising, donations and my staff and I have always been willing to donate our time when asked. A great example of this Carlisle community is when we had 44 cars in a row “pay it forward” meaning to blind pay for the order of the car behind theirs. These random acts of kindness speak volumes about the character of this community and we are so thankful to be a part of it.
Today’s business is challenging and changing daily, being flexible and adjusting on the fly is critical to surviving these pandemic times. We know we have had some long lines and we thank you for hanging in there with us. It is important that our customers know that we are working as expeditiously as possible to accurately and quickly get them served no matter the amount of staff we have available. We appreciate the kind encouraging words often spoken to the staff at the drive thru window. While our staff continues to rise to each obstacle, without the dependable, caring and hardworking efforts of my managers, Paige Ingram, Katii Luma and Randi Wolf, remaining open this whole time wouldn't have been possible. Down from our usual 25 our current staff of 13 are trying really hard to serve each customer fresh made to order treats in a timely manner. I thank them for their hustle.
We are striving to open our dining room before March as much as I want to open it now. I am trying to keep customers and staff healthy so they can show up for their shifts. We are following all safeguards mainly by keeping staff who feel sickly, had exposure or were sent home from school out of the store along with daily health checks and enhanced frequent disinfecting. It’s important to me that we send the community a message that we value them, we want to give a good experience and for them to feel safe with their choice knowing we are taking necessary precautions with staff wellness, cleanliness and standards. We’re grateful to be a part of this great Carlisle Community and look forward to any opportunities to help support it!
