The Macoupin County Board is seeking qualified grant writers who are interested in assisting local units of government with grant applications through the County's new Grant Writing Assistance Program.

Under this program, Macoupin County will provide funding for grant writing services for municipalities, townships, special districts, and other eligible local government entities. Approved grant writing services will be compensated at a rate of $100 per hour, up to a maximum of $1,000 per grant application.

We are compiling a list of grant writers who would like to be considered by local governments seeking assistance with upcoming grant opportunities.

Grant writers interested in being included on this list should submit the following:
• Name
• Business/Organization (if applicable)
• Contact information
• Brief summary of grant writing experience
• Areas of expertise (infrastructure, parks, public safety, economic development, etc.)

Submissions should be sent to the Macoupin County Clerk's Office at [email protected] no later than July 15th, 2026
We encourage experienced grant writers to apply and help bring additional funding opportunities to communities throughout Macoupin County.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the County Board voted to place an advisory referendum regarding Illinois separation on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

An advisory referendum is not a law and is not binding. Think of it as an official opinion poll that allows voters to express their views on a public question.

Regardless of the outcome, a "Yes" vote would not automatically create a new state, separate counties from Illinois, or change any existing laws. Any such action would require numerous additional approvals and legal steps beyond the referendum itself.

This morning, I was part of the Historical Society’s reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Spring Festival as part of the celebration of America 250. After the reading there was a discussion about which parts of the declaration meant something to us and I talked about how this document set up that every two years, we have the ability to overthrow the government very peacefully through voting. The founders created that and because of it, we became the envy of the world. There will be another reading of the declaration on July 4th at the Courthouse.
