There is never a good time to deal with a tornado warning, especially as we have after school events, along with elementary bus runs. This creates expected stress and anxiety when you have small children on a bus during severe weather. First Student was trying to answer phone calls and provide information as they received it. As a reminder, these are the operating procedures we follow when a tornado warning is issued:
If a Tornado Warning Occurs While Students Are at School…
When a tornado warning is issued for our area, students and staff will immediately move to designated safe areas inside the building. Students will remain in these locations until the warning has expired and school officials determine that it is safe to return to normal activities. If students are outside for recess, athletics, physical education, or another activity, they will be brought inside to a designated safe area as quickly as possible.
If a Tornado Warning Occurs While Students Are on School Transportation…
If a tornado warning is issued while a school bus is transporting students, the driver will follow established emergency procedures and seek the safest available location. Whenever possible, buses will return to the school building from which the students were picked up, where students can be moved into the building's designated tornado-safe areas.
