We are excited to share some wonderful news!

Our own Firefighter/Paramedic Dann Cyr and his wife Mariah welcomed their son, Charlie, into the world this week.

The Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department would like to congratulate Captain Scott Michaud on being recognized as a Portland Sea Dogs Hometown Hero last week.

This award recognizes first responders from across Maine who demonstrate exceptional dedication and service to their communities. Those who know Scott understand that this recognition is well deserved.

As a Captain with the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department, Scott has dedicated countless hours to serving the citizens of Caribou. Beyond his leadership on emergency scenes, Scott also serves as one of the department's Chaplains.

Scott is also passionate about preserving the history of the fire service. He has devoted significant time and effort to maintaining and restoring the department's antique fire apparatus, helping ensure that future generations can appreciate and learn from the rich history of the Caribou Fire Department.

Whether responding to emergencies, supporting fellow firefighters, preserving our traditions, or representing the department in the community, Scott consistently embodies the values of service, dedication, and professionalism.

Please join us in congratulating Captain Scott Michaud on this well-deserved recognition. We are proud to call him a member of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department family and thank him for his continued commitment to our department and community.

Congratulations, Scott!

On May 16th, members of the Caribou Fire & Ambulance Department conducted the final live burns for the Caribou Technology Center’s Fire Science program. High school students from surrounding communities participated in Class A and Class B burns, as well as the suppression of a motor vehicle fire, to demonstrate their firefighting knowledge and skills gained throughout the year.

Over the course of the program, our own Firefighter/EMT Matt Russell and Firefighter/Paramedic Kenny O’Bar volunteered their time to assist with hands-on instruction and help prepare the students for this important day.

Following the completion of these burns, students will sit for their Pro Board Firefighter I & II certifications — a requirement for many fire departments across Maine.

We are incredibly proud of these young men and women for their hard work and dedication, and we wish them the best of luck on their upcoming examinations.

Thank you to Caribou Tech Center for allowing us to be a part of their journey and helping shape the next generation of firefighters. Also, special thanks to Northeast Propane and Mark's Towing Service for providing the resources needed to make this possible.

As ATV trails begin to open across our area this weekend, Caribou Fire & Ambulance would like to remind everyone to make safety a priority while enjoying the trails.

Wear appropriate safety gear, ride within your abilities, and always stay alert to changing trail and weather conditions. Most importantly, alcohol and ATVs never mix.

Please remember to stay on designated trails and respect the private landowners who generously allow access throughout our region. Responsible riding helps keep our trail system open and enjoyable for everyone.

A safe ride home is the goal every time. Have a fun, safe, and respectful Memorial Day weekend on the trails! 🇺🇸

Today marks the final day of our “Learn Not To Burn” program with our local schools!

Students in grades K–2 have been learning important fire safety skills such as smoke detector awareness, stop-drop-and-roll, campfire safety, and what to do in an emergency. They also got the chance to meet our furry friend, Smokey Bear!

And of course… one of the highlights of the day — getting Firefighter Mike soaked with the hose! 🚒💦

We always enjoy spending time with our students and helping teach fire safety in a fun and interactive way. Thank you to our schools, staff, and students for another great year!

During EMS Week on May 21, 2026, Chief Brian Lajoie presented the Maine EMS Phoenix Award to members of the Caribou Fire & Ambulance Department for their successful resuscitation of a patient in cardiac arrest on July 31, 2025.

The Phoenix Award is presented annually by Maine EMS to EMS providers who utilize their skılls and training during a cardiac arrest incident resulting in a patient who was clinically deceased being successfully revived and able to return to a neurologically intact and normal quality of life.

The Caribou Fire & Ambulance Department is honored to receive this recognition and proud of the efforts of the personnel involved in this life-saving event.
