National Weather Service Briefing
June 16, 2026 12:30 UPDATE

We continue to monitor the organized tropical system which is expected to move into the northwestern Gulf. There is a very high potential of the system strengthening into Tropical Storm Arthur (maximum sustained winds of at least 39 mph) over the next 2 days.

The system is not expected to strengthen much above a very weak tropical storm.

Status: Potential Tropical Cyclone One (not yet a named tropical storm)
Current movement: Generally northeast around 6 mph
Maximum sustained winds: Around 30 mph
Main threat: Heavy rainfall and flooding more than wind. Marginal risk of small tornado activity.
Expectations: Most of Acadiana is expected to receive between 6 and 8 inches of rainfall, with isolated areas potentially seeing higher totals through Friday night. The heaviest rainfall for our area is currently expected from tonight through Thursday evening.

Flooding is expected in low-lying, urban and poor drainage areas as periods of heavy rainfall may exceed runoff and drainage capacity. Localized street flooding and ponding of water on roadways may occur, resulting in hazardous travel conditions.

Our office will continue to closely monitor this situation and provide updates as conditions change.
