School is out, and summer break is here! As children enjoy their free time, let's help keep them safe during their summer adventures! Vehicles should be very cautious while driving due to children running after balls, riding bikes, and walking on the sidewalks. Parents, please remind your kids to always tell you where they are going, never approach a stranger's vehicle, if something feels wrong, trust their instincts, find a safe adult, and call 911 in an emergency.

Bike Safety:
* Ride on the right side of the road, with traffic.
* Obey stop signs and traffic signals.
* Use hand signals when turning.
* Make sure shoelaces and loose clothing can't get caught in the spokes or chain.
* Use lights and reflectors if riding near dusk.

Walking Safety:
* Walk on the left side of the road, facing oncoming traffic when there is no sidewalk.
* Use sidewalks whenever available.
* Cross at marked crosswalks whenever possible.
* Look left, right, and left again before crossing.
* Avoid distractions like phones or headphones near traffic.

Bikes, Scooters, & Skateboards:
* Stay alert for vehicles entering and exiting driveways.
* Avoid busy streets when possible.

Have a safe, fun, and memorable summer!

When our agency looks at applicants and conducts interviews, we are always searching for the “Best Fit” officer to fill that position. We are talking about that one applicant, out of many, who truly fits what our agency is looking for and who is best for our community he/she will serve.

We are all looking for that one “Best Fit” who shows up for work and is ready to work.

The officer who truly has a vested interest in our residents and community. The officer who can arrive on a scene and bring calmness to any situation, and who can connect with the community as if he or she is speaking with family members.

The officer who shows true compassion when dealing with victims in many different cases.

We truly believe that the Carencro Police Department has found our “Best Fit” for our community.

Over the past year and a half, he has been assigned nearly 100 criminal cases to investigate. Of those criminal cases, he has solved 96% of them, bringing closure for the victims involved. His positive attitude of “WE WILL” and “WE CAN,” which he brings to work each and every day, is the reason why the Carencro Police Department has chosen Detective Meddrick Pickens to be the recipient of the 2026 Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year award. We are certainly proud of Detective Pickens and he is truly an asset to our team and our community. Please help us in congratulating him on this special day.

Huge thank-you to Lila at Lila’s Patrol Pals for donating stuffed animals for our officers to hand out. During a child’s time of need during a tragic event (Domestic Violence, Crash, & Etc), our officers will be able to give a stuffed animal to them for comfort. The Carencro Police Department appreciates your generosity and kind heart. Thank you for supporting our community.
