A big thank you to all of the Carbondale Officers and first responders who helped make Safety Day at the Youth Police Camp a success!

Cadets had the opportunity to learn about gun safety from retired LT Kemp, evidence collection from Crime Scene Specialist, Dan Reed, K-9 handling from Officers Kawasaki, Garden and Moorman, and the Special Response Team, Lt Lattan, Sgt Stewart and Detective Arenas.

The cadets got firsthand look at the important work our public safety professionals do every day.

Tuesday's Jackson County/Carbondale Tornado Response 26 Full-Scale Exercise was a success. Local, regional, and state emergency response partners worked together through a tornado disaster scenario to test emergency plans, communications, resource coordination, damage assessment, shelter operations, and decision-making.

The exercise highlighted strong collaboration among fire, law enforcement, EMS, public health, hospitals, code/inspection services, volunteer organizations, private-sector partners, and supporting regional and state resources. Valuable lessons were learned, strengths were confirmed, and opportunities for improvement were identified to further enhance our preparedness.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped strengthen Jackson County’s ability to respond to and recover from future emergencies. Together, we are building a safer, more resilient community.

The first official day of camp is over, and everything is going great. After some early morning workouts and some classroom time, the cadets worked together for team-building exercises courtesy of some awesome soldiers from the US Army. Thank you for your service and for volunteering to be mentors for our cadets and teaching us how to work together.

The meals for the campo so far have been graciously donated by The Taste of Bev (Sunday Dinner), The Elks of Union County (Breakfast All Week), St. Nick's Brewery (Monday Lunch), and
Cold Blooded Brew (Monday Dinner). Thank you to all of the sponsors of the camp. We couldn't hold this camp without the support of our community.
