On Wednesday, the SIU Department of Public Safety proudly introduced KT (King Tut), our Community Service and Mental Health Advocate Canine, at Salukis Care Day held at Faner Plaza and the Student Services Building.

Salukis Care Day is dedicated to supporting student well-being by providing opportunities to relax, connect, and focus on mental health and KT fit right in.

KT and his handler, Officer Lyerla, spent the day meeting students, faculty, and staff, offering comfort, smiles, and plenty of tail wags. From quick visits to meaningful interactions, KT made a positive impact on everyone he met.

We are excited to have KT as part of our department and look forward to seeing him continue to support mental health initiatives and strengthen connections within the SIU community.

🚗 Parking Update

ParkMobile is officially replacing the Flowbird app and Pay-by-Text system beginning March 16, 2026.

Students, faculty, and staff can now use ParkMobile for a faster, more convenient way to pay for parking at pay stations.

🔹 Remember:
• A valid parking decal is still required
• Payment is still required at designated pay stations

🎖️Annual Award Ceremony

Members of DPS were celebrated today for their dedication to the university community during the annual award ceremony. Officers were awarded in several categories including Excellent Service, Community Service and Life Saving. The Chief also awarded a member of the campus community the Directors Award.

We thank all of those who attended and Chancellor Lane for his kind words.
