Carbon Hill High School

Carbon Hill High School A public 9-12 school. Carbon Hill High School has a proud history of excellence and tradition. CHHS has successful alumni in numerous professional fields.

Our students are competitive in both academics and athletics. The mission of CHHS is to provide for the growth and development of all students so that they may obtain their greatest potential. Carbon Hill High School places an emphasis on preparing our students for a future in a highly competitive world. CHHS has partnered with Bevill State Community College to offer qualifying students the opport

unity to take dual enrollment courses which allow students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously. The faculty is dedicated to practicing the most current data-driven best teaching practices. Academic classes are taught based on the national common core curriculum standards. CHHS is especially proud of the opportunities available to our students through numerous scholarship programs. The William Thornton Scholarship Program is provided through a local foundation and is available only to graduating seniors from Carbon Hill High School. Each year, numerous seniors are awarded this prestigious two year scholarship to Bevill State Community College. Our students are consistently awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship money. Each year we also have student athletes who are awarded athletic scholarships and are successful competitors at the college level. Carbon Hill High School currently has an enrollment of over 400 students, many of whom enjoy active involvement in CHHS organizations and athletics. Due to the nature of being the only high school in a small, rural town, CHHS traditionally enjoys strong community support and involvement in all aspects of school activities. Extracurricular organizations include the CHHS Student Council, Anchor Club, National Honor Society, Beta Club, First Priority, Science Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Concert and Marching Bands. Carbon Hill High School is also home to many successful athletic teams including football, basketball, baseball, track and field, volleyball, softball, golf, and cheerleading. CHHS has had a state championship softball team, multiple volleyball state championships, and has been the state runner up in boys' basketball. Our cheerleading squad has a strong reputation for state and national championships and has won the Walker County Cheerleading Competition 18 out of 20 years. Part of the success of CHHS athletics can be attributed to the knowledge and competitve spirit of our coaches, three of whom (Coach Robert Epps, Coach Wade Tittle and Coach Garrett Kirkland) have been awarded the Daily Mountain Eagle Coach of the Year Award. Boys' basketball coach Robert Epps also won the Alabama State Coach of the Year in 2012.

Teacher Appreciation Week may officially only last one week, but thanks to the generosity of our community, our faculty and staff felt celebrated the entire last month of school!

We are incredibly thankful for the school clubs, local churches, businesses, parents, and community members who provided meals, sweet treats, goodies, gifts, and so many thoughtful acts of kindness throughout the month. Your support made our teachers and staff feel truly appreciated and valued.

Thank you for continually pouring into CHHS and helping make our school such a special place. We are so grateful for this community! πŸ’™πŸΎ
