We send our condolences to his family, friends and the Mogan County Sheriff's Office

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deputy Reserve Ernie Truax, who passed away last night. Ernie spent most of his spare time helping Morgan County residents and riding alongside deputies, serving as a mentor to many young deputies and leaving a lasting impression. Volunteers like him are hard to find. Rest easy, Deputy Reserve Truax; we will take it from here.

He is known to frequent Hampshire County.

💔🚔 A HERO LOST IN THE LINE OF DUTY 🚔💔

Last night, tragedy struck when Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Tim O'Connor was fatally shot in the line of duty while doing what he had done for 15 years — protecting the public.
Just after 8:00 p.m., Corporal O’Connor responded to a call about an erratic driver in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania. He located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Compass Road and Michael Road in West Caln Township.
Corporal O’Connor radioed dispatch to advise that he had the vehicle stopped. Moments later, dispatchers attempted to reach him again… but there was no response.
When fellow officers arrived on scene, they discovered a devastating situation that investigators are now calling a murder-suicide.
Authorities believe the driver opened fire within seconds of Corporal O’Connor approaching the vehicle. The veteran trooper was killed at the scene.
Investigators say the suspect then exited the vehicle and took his own life.
Corporal O’Connor was more than a trooper. He was a husband, a father, a son, a friend, and a protector of his community. He proudly served the people of Pennsylvania for 15 years, putting on the uniform each day knowing the risks that come with it.
Tonight, a family is grieving.
His wife Casey has lost her husband.
His parents Maureen and Tim have lost their son.
And a young daughter has lost her father — a man who left home to serve others and never made it back.
This is the heartbreaking reality behind the badge.
Please keep the O’Connor family, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the entire law enforcement community in your thoughts and prayers tonight.
💙 Rest Easy Corporal O’Connor. Your watch is over, but your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The Capon Bridge Police Department is proud to announce the 2025 Citizen of The Year Award was presented to Eric Loy, by Chief William Orndorff and Mayor David "Doc" Holliday, photo courtesy of Noel Loy.

Eric received this award for the hundreds of volunteer hours he dedicated this past year as the head coach of the Hampshire Bears. Eric coached the kids that showed up, never recruited and built this football program from a zero win team in 2023 to South Branch Valley Youth Football League UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS in 2025. Eric showed the kids in Capon Bridge that he believes in them and they could not be stopped, if they continued to work hard, on and off the field.

Eric was more than a coach to these children. He was a mentor, someone the kids could talk to about any problems they were having, and sometimes a shoulder to cry on.

Eric was a servant leader who was humble the entire season and a leader of men.

I could not think of anyone more deserving of Citizen of The Year for 2025.

Thank you Coach Steve and Coach Breezy for showing support for Eric and the Hampshire Bears family.
