I will attempt to do one of the hardest and most challenging things I have done in many years. That is to thank all of the speakers, presenters, attendees, supporters, persons who helped make this happen, and well-wishers for the Street Naming Dedication held today, October 30, 2024, in honor of the work that I have done in the DMV over the past fifty plus years.
I must thank the members of my immediate family present and absent who have been such an inspiration and encouragement: my wife – Elma, my son Michael, daughters Consuella, Talana, and Lisa, my son-in-law Darrell, my triplet granddaughters, Valynn, Erynn, and Jordynn, and my only grandson Dakhota Smith, and last but not least, my nephew Pierre Edwards, Stand Up Comedian, Movie Writer & Producer, and Actor to name a few of his movies – B*A*P*S Halley Berry, How to Be a Player, For Da Love Of Money, & Slice 1, 2 & 3, to name a few.
While it is impossible to name everyone, I take the liberty of naming some who were a driving force in making all of this possible. To the former chair of the Maryland National Capitol Park and Planning Commission Elizabeth (Betty) Hewlett, District Seven Council Member Krystal Oriadha and her Chief of staff Tiffany Hannon, Former District Six Council Member Samuel Dean, and Coalition President Belinda Queen Cunningham. When the process came to a squeaking halt because of red tape, these individuals and others not mentioned by name, said LOUD AND CLEAR, NOT SO!
Thanks to the Wayne K. Curry family, for your presence and continued support, State Senator JoAnn Benson, State Senator Anthony Muse; Prince George’s County Council Chair Joline Ivey, members of the Coalition of Central Prince George’s County (Coalition), especially President Emeritus Turner, former Mayor Eugene Grant, members of the Wilburn Community, Dr. Vandy Kennedy, Sisters & friends Shirley & Bridget Waters, Brother Melvin Forbes, Vanessa & Rameses, Mission of Hope and Deliverance Pastor Lartman, Sister Medley, Daughter Breana, and a special thanks to CEO of Mission of Love Charites, Adena Bradley, and her devoted staff for making sure that we had use of the premises for the administrative portion of the unveiling of the Douglas Edwards Place across from the Mission of Love Charities warehouse
