This morning, around 11 am, Station 5 (A Shift) was alerted for the report of a house fire in the 200 blk of Mountain View Ct. Engine 802 arrived on scene to find a 2 story split-foyer with fire showing from the rear of the home.

Due to what appeared to be an outside-in fire, E802 advanced their hose line to the rear to knock down the exterior fire before then making entry into the home to extinguish fire on the first floor. Paramedic Engine 805 & Engine 837 advanced their hand lines to the second floor to extinguish fire on the upper level.

Trucks 833 & 826 laddered the home & assisted the engine companies with opening up & ventilation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

After 20 yrs with the PGFD, 12 of the last 13 here at Station 5 & over 6 yrs as a 911 dispatcher prior to starting his FD career, today marks the final shift for Firefighter Johnston.

Last shift his crew had a retirement celebration which brought his family, some past shift partners & officers by to celebrate his retirement. FF Johnston has been a constant presence on C Shift during his tenure here at Station 5. Congratulations Jay & enjoy your much deserved retirement.

This morning, around 8 am, Station 5 (A Shift) was alerted for the reported house fire in the 1100 blk of Winding Brook Ct. PSC advised responding units that they were receiving multiple calls & were also getting reports of some still inside the home.

Paramedic Engine 846 arrived to find a 2 story single family home with fire showing & advanced their hose line into the home. Paramedic Engine 805 positioned to the rear of the home, advanced their hose line through the fence & made entry into the 2nd floor via a ground ladder.

Truck 843 located the trapped occupant & removed them from the home. Once outside the occupant was transferred to awaiting EMS units for treatment & transport. An evacuation of the home was requested shortly after due to roof collapse. The fire was extinguished & 3 FF’s sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Saturday afternoon (4/11), around 5 pm, Station 5 (A Shift) was alerted for a reported apartment fire in the 1200 blk of Benning Rd. Paramedic Engine 805 arrived to find a 3 story apartment building with smoke showing from the first floor.

PE 805 advanced their hose line into the apartment, located & extinguished a fire in the bathroom. Truck 826 laddered the building & assisted PE 805 with opening up, ventilation & overhaul. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Yesterday, just after 11 am, Station 5 (C Shift) was alerted for the reported apartment fire in the 7300 blk of Donnell Pl. PSC advised responding units that they were getting multiple calls. Engine 823 arrived on the scene to find 3 in the front, 4 in the rear, garden style apartment building with fire on the top 3 floors in the rear & requested the 2nd alarm be started.

E823 utilized their deck gun to knock the bulk of the fire before making entry with their hose line. Truck 826 laddered the building & assisted with gaining access to the apartments. Paramedic Engine 805 advanced a hose line to the 3rd floor, assisted with extinguishing the fire & overhaul.

1 occupant was removed from the apartment building & was transported to the hospital for further treatment. Crews remained on scene for several hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Last night, around midnight, Station 5 (D Shift) was alerted for the report of a house fire in the area of Rollins Ave & Modupeola Way. Paramedic Engine 805 arrived to find a large 2 story home with fire showing. PE 805 advanced their hose line in an attempt to make entry into the home but due to the well advanced fire on the 2nd floor & the attic, the roof began to collapse causing the switch to a defensive attack.

The Fire Task Force was started to bring additional units to the scene. Crews utilized hand held hose lines & master streams to eventually bring the fire under control.

Around 7pm, Station 5 (B Shift) was alerted for the Apartment Fire in the 1200 blk of Boone’s Hill Rd. PSC advised responding units that they were getting reports of a fire in the kitchen that was spreading to the living room.

Paramedic Engine 805 arrived on the scene to find a 3 story in the front, 4 in the rear, apartment building with smoke showing. PE 805 took their hose line to top floor apartment where they located a fire in the kitchen with minor extension into the living room.

Truck 826 laddered the building & assisted PE 805 with ventilation & checking for extension. 1 cat was removed from the apartment by Truck 826. No injuries to civilian or FD personnel were reported.

This morning, around 11 am, Paramedic Engine 805 (C Shift) was transferred to Baltimore City while crews battled their 3rd multi alarm fire in the past few days. PE805 filled in at BCFD Eng 6-Tower 1 Oldtown Station. PE805 returned to Capitol Heights around 7 pm.

Last night, around 10 pm, Station 5 (B Shift) was alerted for the report of a house fire in the 5500 blk on Walker Mill Rd. PSC advised responding units that they were receiving multiple calls.

Engine 826 arrived on the scene to find a 2 story middle of the row townhouse with fire showing. E826 knocked down the exterior fire prior to making entry into the home. The interior of the home was clear & the fire was primarily in the alleyway between the townhouses with minimal extension into the attic space.

Paramedic Engine 805 arrived & assisted E826 with extinguishing the remaining fire in the alleyway. Trucks 802 & 829 assisted with opening up & checking for extension in the effected townhouses. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Several suspicious packages have been left at our firehouse, this latest incident (involving Molotov Cocktails) was caught on security camera. The PGPD is asking for any help locating the person responsible & are offering a $7,500 reward.

All of our crews have & will continue to provide uninterrupted Fire & EMS services to Capitol Heights & the surrounding areas.
