At their July meeting, the Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation Board of Directors voted unanimously to purchase a book spine for the Books of Distinction wall in memory of Nancy Bray who died on April 25, 2026 at the age of 81.

During her lifetime, the Cape Girardeau native taught journalism and served as adviser to the yearbook at both the high school and university levels, and had served as the director of Marketing, Public Relations, and Communications at Southeast Hospital (now Mercy Southeast) for over two decades. In these roles and through her many other affiliations and activities, she touched countless lives and served as a mentor to many.

In particular, Nancy had been a founding member of the Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation, founded in 1978.

The current board celebrates Nancy’s role and legacy in creating the vibrant Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation that continues today.

Awesome news this morning from the Cape Girardeau Public Library as they continue to make the library accessible for everyone all of the time!

⭐BIG NEWS: No more overdue fines!⭐

Starting September 1, Cape Girardeau Public Library is going overdue fine-free! 🎉

We’re removing overdue fines from patron accounts because everyone should be able to access the library without unnecessary barriers. This change reflects our ongoing commitment to making the library a welcoming, accessible resource for everyone in our community.

Already have overdue fines on your account? Our staff will be working hard to manually clear them beginning September 1. To make sure your account balance is cleared, call us at (573) 334-5279 or stop by User Services.
