Soon a new sidewalk will be constructed along the west side of North Cape Rock Drive between Kingshighway and Perryville under a Federal TAP grant project. Work will begin early summer and is contracted to be completed by December 2026 depending on weather and other factors. NIP KELLEY EQUIPMENT CO. will be doing the work. They will be in contact with property owners with driveways on the west side of the road before impacting access to driveways.

The South Sprigg Street renovation is nearing completion as the contractor aims to finish paving before July.

Fronabarger Concreters will finish concrete repairs from Linden to Highway 74 over the next two weeks. They plan to complete the asphalt overlay the week of June 22, then finish sidewalks and driveways.

Voters approved the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) project between 74 and Southern Expressway in 2020. Crews have been removing and replacing curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, as well as replacing deteriorated concrete street panels and completing mill and overlay work, resulting in a smooth new surface. The 104-year-old water main has also been replaced along the project length, in addition to necessary sewer repairs.

In addition to South Sprigg Street, other recent projects like Lexington and Cape Rock were made possible by the Transportation Trust Fund sales tax, which has been voter-approved every five years since 1995. Most of the City’s street maintenance budget, and all major renovation, is funded by the half-cent tax. TTF renewals are not tax increases, but a chance for the community to review completed and proposed work, and vote on whether to approve the sales tax for another cycle. The next election will be in 2030. Visit the City’s website for more project timelines.
