VFW Post 8463 proudly celebrates National Women Veterans Recognition Day.

This day is not a separate Veterans Day for women. Rather, it commemorates the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act on June 12, 1948. This historic legislation granted women the right to permanently and fully serve in the regular Armed Forces and to be recognized as veterans for that service.

Before the passage of this act, many women who served our nation during times of war were sent home when conflicts ended. Despite serving alongside their male counterparts, they were often denied the recognition, rights, and benefits afforded to other veterans simply because of their gender. As noted by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the act “deemed women essential to war efforts and allowed them to serve in the regular armed forces full time.”

Women have answered the call to serve throughout our nation’s history- from the Revolutionary War and Civil War to today’s military- serving as nurses, support personnel, intelligence operatives, pilots, leaders, and in countless other roles critical to our nation’s defense.

Today, and every day, we honor and salute all women veterans, regardless of when, where, how, or for how long they served. Whether or not your state officially recognizes this day, your service, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation deserve our gratitude and respect.

Thank you for your service.

Today, on June 6th, we pause to honor the incredible bravery, sacrifice, and resolve of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy 82 years ago today.

Operation Overlord was the largest amphibious invasion in history, involving more than 150,000 troops who faced unimaginable odds to forge a beachhead for freedom. To the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and coast guardsmen who turned the tide of World War II—and to the families of those who never came home—we owe a debt that can never be fully repaid.

We remember their courage, we honor their memory, and we reaffirm our commitment to look out for our veterans and community every single day.

Congratulations on your Go-Live. Thank you for what you provide to the post.

Cuban soul. Midwest comfort. South Florida flavor. Big Sexy Eats is Cape Coral’s hidden-in-plain-sight speakeasy kitchen at the VFW - more than a diner, way beyond typical bar food, and built for ridiculously good eats.

Comrades, Auxiliary, Family and Friends,
What an unbelievable way to kick off the new term. Thanks to the absolute dedication, hard work, and relentless drive of our members, VFW Post 8463 has officially achieved All American status!
This is one of the highest honors a post can receive, signaling that we aren't just meeting our goals—we are leading the pack in membership growth, community service, and veteran advocacy. To every single person who recruited a new member, showed up for a fundraiser, or helped us stay on top of our programs: Thank you. This victory belongs to all of us.
Honoring Our Volunteers
While All American status is a team win, it is built on the backs of individuals who consistently give their time without asking for anything in return. This month, I want to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to two of our outstanding volunteers:
• Jim Carlson: For your incredible work doing anything asked on a daily basis is appreciated more than I can express, thank you for being constantly on the go.
• Gordy Allem: For your work with the Honor Guard, and as the official armorer for the post. Your work is behind the scenes yet critical to the ongoing success of our Honor Guard.
If you see these two around the post this month, please buy them a drink or give them a firm handshake to show your appreciation!
Mark Your Calendars: June Dates & Deadlines
As we head into the summer heat, we have a few key dates and observances to keep on your radar:
• June 6 (Saturday) – D-Day Remembrance: Take a moment to honor the legacy of the brave souls who stormed the beaches of Normandy 82 years ago.
• June 14 (Sunday) – Flag Day & The U.S. Army Birthday: We will be celebrating the birth of the Army and properly honoring Old Glory
Let’s keep our foot on the gas, look out for one another, and enjoy a safe, productive summer.
No One Does More for Veterans.
Respectfully,
Rob Williams,
Commander, VFW Post 8463

Please join us at noon today at the post for a moment of reflection

If you are not able to join us, below is the message that I will share.

Today is not about us. It is for our brothers in arms who didn't make it home.
As veterans, when we look around our post, we see a community built on shared sacrifice, camaraderie, and a deep understanding of what it means to serve. But today, the spotlight shifts away from those of us standing here. Today, we turn our hearts entirely outward to the ones who are absent. We stand in the shadow of giants—the brave men and women who gave their last full measure of devotion so that we could gather in peace, in freedom, and in safety.
Every name carved into a monument, every flag planted in a cemetery, and every empty chair at our tables represents a story cut short. They were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, and steadfast friends. They were the ones who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us, shared the dust, the cold, the fear, and the laughter, but whose watch ended far too soon.
We know the crushing weight of their absence, and we know the profound debt we owe them. It is a debt we can never truly repay with words alone. A speech cannot bring them back, and a moment of silence cannot fill the void left in the hearts of the families they left behind.
So, how do we truly honor them?
We honor them by remembering. We say their names out loud. We share their stories so they are never forgotten by history.
But most importantly, we honor them by how we choose to live our lives. We have been given a gift that they were denied: tomorrow. We have been given the privilege to watch our children grow, to build communities, and to enjoy the simple freedoms of everyday life. To let those gifts go to waste would be a disservice to their sacrifice. We must live lives worthy of the price they paid.
As members of this VFW, our mission is to ensure that their legacy is preserved and that their families are supported. Let us leave here today re-dedicated to that cause. Let us love our country fiercely, look out for one another, and live every single day with the gratitude and purpose that our fallen brothers and sisters earned for us.
May God bless our fallen heroes, may He bring comfort to their families, and may He continue to bless the United States of America.

Rob
