The National Severe Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm WATCH for our area until 11 PM. Quarter sized hail, and wind gusts up to 85 MPH are possible with any storms that develop. There also is the possibility of very heavy rainfall leading to flooding. Stay tuned to your favorite news station for the latest developments.

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a Heat Advisory for our area, tomorrow, July 23, 2026 from 1PM-9PM. Temperatures and heat indexes will be up to 105 degrees.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room, stay out of the sun. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening. Take action immediately when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Glad to help out at the Canyon Area Library with the Summer Cool Down this morning. We were told that this event was their biggest attendance for their events this year!

FF/EMT Joseph Martinez will truly be missed at CFD. RIP, brother, we'll take it from here.

It is with great sadness that the Canyon Firefighters Association announces the passing of volunteer firefighter Joseph Martinez.

Joe was a loving husband, devoted father, and faithful friend. He served his community through the Canyon Fire Department since January 2019 and was known around the station for his sense of humor and selfless spirit.

Joe faced his battle with cancer with courage, determination, and grace. His strength and resilience throughout his journey were an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Even in the face of his illness, he continued to demonstrate the same selfless spirit, unwavering character, and charming wit that defined both his life and his service.

Joe will be deeply missed by his family and his fellow firefighters. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they mourn this tremendous loss.
