7% of What? Let’s Clear It Up.
You may have heard that Texas Water Company’s Canyon Lake allocation is about 7%—but that does not mean 7% of the entire lake. The 7% refers to approximately 7% of the 90,000 acre-feet per year available through the GBRA water supply contract, an amount established under state authorization. To help put that volume into perspective, 90,000 acre-feet is equivalent to about 29.3 billion gallons of water, or roughly 36,000 Olympic-size swimming pools. TWC’s contracted drinking water allocation is about 1.99 billion gallons, about 2,500 Olympic-size swimming pools.
👉In other words, our supply is tied to a defined annual contract amount, not the total amount of water stored in Canyon Lake.

Have you ever wondered how TWC keeps track of changing water conditions across the communities we serve? 💧

Our teams monitor water conditions every day, looking at factors such as water supply, customer demand, storage levels and overall system performance. This information helps us respond to changing conditions, make informed operational decisions and support reliable water service.

Because water conditions can change throughout the year, monitoring isn't a one-time check. It's an ongoing part of managing water resources responsibly and planning for the needs of the communities we serve.
